AFTERMATH
Grosso and myself bailed from the square
tubes and, along with some other members
of the U.S. team, rented two apartments,
which were cool, and we partied heavily.
Like someone once said, "When in
Canada, drink beer,eh."
The apartments were seven stories up.
One was on the side of a building and the
other was around the corner. One night we
THE FOLLOWING INFO WAS FURNISHED BY THE
CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICIALS:
NOTE: It was the decision of the championship
officals (sic) to withhold Steve Caballero's
$500.00 in prize money for 3rd place in
the half-pipe event. This was due to the
fact that because of his actions following
his last ride in the finals a near riot was
started which caused substantial damage
to both Expo and C.A.S.A. equipment. The
September 1st issue of Sports Illustrated
has an article in the "Scoreboard" sec-
tion that describes the occurrence.
Although other skateboard associations
thought he should also be denied his 3rd
place standings the C.A.S.A. decided to
only whithhold (sic) his prize money. This
should be a lession (sic) to all
skateboarders that their actions can pro-
voke the crowd to react in a negative
manner.

locked our keys in the one around the cor-
ner. Outside the window was a ledge about
a foot wide, and that was it. So Joe Lopes
Just walks the whole ledge, around the
whole building, and climbs in through the
window. It was seriously crazy. The guy is
out of control-he's hyper.
Joe just said, "I'll do it," and walked
straight out there. Didn't even look down,
just walked the whole ledge, seven stories.

stomach against the wall. We didn't even
know if a window was open. Joe just took
the chance, and found one that was open.
Finally, there was the awards banquet. I
thought it was a nightmare. In fact, the
whole contest was a nightmare. The an-
nouncer, Russ Howell, reminded me of a
game show host. It was like we were a
bunch of freaks. It wasn't even skateboar-
ding. It was distorted. We didn't REALLY get
to skate at all..
