Cliff Burton was one of the best
The late Cliff Burton, Cow Palace, S.F. June 1986 heavy metal bass players in the
world. With his long flowing mane
snapping back and forth in con-
tinuous motion, he plucked out the
thumping rhythms for the hottest up-
and-coming act, Metallica. His sneer-
ing, middle-finger-up-front approach
was the trademark of the quiet man
with the long bell-bottoms. His con-
tribution to Metallica was more than
just playing bass. He also supplied
personalized solos and strong
creative input in the musical com-
positions. In addition, he was like a
brother to James, Kirk and Lars in
this tight, raging family.
Early Saturday morning, Septem
ber 27, 1986, Cliff Burton lost his life
in a tragic accident, while travelling
on a tour bus from Stockholm,
Sweden, to Denmark in the midst of
a very successful European tour. The
rest of the band members suffered
minor cuts and bruises.
Cliff was a true friend and a hella
partying guy. He was loved by many
and will be missed by millions. Our
condolences go out to his family and
friends, the band and management.

always be remembered. Rest in
peace, you maniac!
