to draw for myself. Not really to show and tell.
I notice you put slogans, charicatures, etc.,
on your boards. A lot of people misunder-
stand that. Why do you put those things and
what do you think about the people who
misunderstand that?
Like angel dust. I didn't put it on my board
because I take it, I just put it on there because
it's a bad drug. There's people out there that are
using it and it's a bummer. People don't realize
how bad drugs are until it's too late. I just put
it so people know it's there. I just put it on there
for the heck of it.
What do you think about drugs and kids?
Oh, I know kids who take drugs. I don't hate
them and I don't tell them not to. I don't take any
myself. I'm not going to tell kids out there not
to take drugs. Who am I to tell them what to do?
People think I take drugs and they tell me not
to take drugs when I don't even take them. So
I don't want to tell anyone what to do.
Is there anything you can tell kids to help
them with their skating, head them in the right
direction?
Learn how to control your board really well. Like
by learning ollies and ollie to back wheels only.
"shifties." It's a lot of control. Just learn how to
control the board really well before you try other
tricks. Then, when you try, other tricks they come
a lot easier 'cause you know how to land with
stability on your board. If you land on your board
a little off you've got control. You don't lose con
trol as easily and fall on your neck.
How many different tricks do you know?
I don't know. I do a lot of tricks.
When you do tricks, do they just happen?
A lot of times, a lot of tricks are combinations.
Mention a couple of combinations. Give an
example of a scenario that you'd come up
with in a certain situation.
Alright, let's see, there's a curb, one foot high,
right? It's a red curb, good for sliding. About a
foot away from that there's a planter that you can
do boardslides on. I'd come at it and I'd do an
ollie to 50/50 on the red curb, ollie from the red
curb onto a boardslide on the planter.
Ollie from a 50/50 grind?
To a boardslide on the planter. Just stuff like
that-combinations. That's the kind of skating
that I enjoy more than anything, skating by
myself and finding combinations. I like that way

more than contests.
Would you say that there's anybody who has
inspired you skating-wise? Like when your
friend did the ollie on the bench and you
couldn't. Does that happen now or do you just
not think about it anymore?
Well there's a lot of tricks I want to do and I don't
know what inspired me. I do ollie flips and I got
those from freestyle. The freestylers were doing
those first. I want to do an ollie-flip to boardslide.
So I guess that's like freestyle influence, right?
Yeah, that's one. I haven't done that yet.
Who are some of your favorite skaters in dif-
ferent levels of skating?
Well, Tony Hawk is one of my favorites. I like
skating with Natas a lot. Lately we've been
skating a lot together and that's fun. We invent
tricks and junk. We invented one we haven't
done yet. This is one I don't really enjoy trying.
It's like a boardslide but you put your hand on
the nose to keep it level and both your feet on
the tail. I don't want to call it a rocket, I think
those are ridiculous. It will be a really hard trick.
A rock and roll boardslide like that?
A rocket boardslide, I guess you could call it, I
mean that's what people will call it.
You prefer not to give tricks names?
Yeah, I don't like to give them names. I'd rather
just tell Natas, "Dude, let's try to do a board-
slide with both feet on the tail and hold the nose
to balance it out and then like pull it off."
That would, be tough.
I think I'll be doing it soon.
How long do you think you'll be skating?
I don't know. I want someplace to put my ramp.
Where is your ramp?
It's at my mom's house right now.
How big is the ramp?
It's a halfpipe about eleven feet tall and sixteen
feet wide.
Do you like riding vertical?
Yeah, a lot. When people see me skate vertical
they go. "Man I didn't even know you skated ver-
tical." If you skate you should skate everything.
right? I don't think anyone should be just a cer-
tain type of skater. If there's only a freestyle
board I'm going to freestyle or I'm going to skate
on it. I don't just streetstyle. I skate, I ride ramps,
I ride ditches, I ride everything. "Oh no, that's
a transition, I don't ride that, I'm a street skater.
I don't like transitions." I think a lot of people
are starting to think that way., It's not good, it's
stupid. I skate everything. The only reason I did
street skate back in the old days was because
there were no ramps to skate or I didn't have
money to skate the park..
What advice could you offer today's young
skaters?
I'd just like to tell them, don't talk. Don't talk
about, "Oh, what's-his-name says he's so good
at skating and I saw him skating and he wasn't
even that good." You know, don't even talk like
that, just skate. If there's a board out there that
you really want, don't bug your parents, go out
there and work for it. Get it without their help.
Don't nag them to death. Especially if they don't
have the money to get it for you.
Any closing comments?
A lot of you might read this and go, "Man, this
guy like really thinks he's something." Well, I do.
