            New York's Raunch Hands
wowed the Los Angeles crowd at the
Lingerie, and rocked the "tanked-up"
house down at Raji's the next night.
The boys had no time for lounging.
booze-hounding or bird-dogging be-
cause their schedule changed at the
last minute when they were called
upon to tour with Soulxsie and the
Banshees. An unlikely combo, but
as they say, opposites attract... On
the other hand, the U.K. Subs were
able to stay in town a little longer
having come to play the Olympic
Auditorium and sit in on a Sunday
session at the Sound Check. They
were horrified though, when hanging
out after hours at The Zero they got
thrown unceremoniously against the
wall during a police raid. Seems some
unidentified patron was stabbed,
and the police, who are just dying to
shut the place down, were there in
seconds. They were a little shook-up,
but not as shook up as Tex and the
Horseheads, who were in Finland
when (GULPI) the nuclear reactor in
Chernobyl blew up. SCARY...
Hüsker Dü sold out LA's posh Roxy
Theater for three nights in a row, to
the delight of Warner Bros.' A & R
execs. But then again they must've
been horrified when the band ap-
peared in their usual, sweaty, dirty
t-shirts and the drummer barefoot.
That's what we call "Selling out with
Style." Opening the show was self-
proclaimed lesbian-Jewish all-Amer-1
ican pholksinger, Phrane. She also
happens to be working on her sec-
ond Lp... Yet another hot perfor-
mance at the Roxy was (hang onto
your hats and tie on your drool bibs)
ex-Go Go's lead singer, Belinda
Carlisle, who was so blonde, tan
and bee-yoo-ti-full she makes Ann
Margaret look like a dog. Her new
material is Go-Goish pop and you'll
probably get a chance to sample it
if you check her out when she tours
with Robert Palmer. Charlotte, (ex-
Go-Go) is also included, although
the band itself is nothing to get ex-
cited over, but Belinda was great
and the crowd loved her... China
White is still in action, and they
played Safari Sams in Huntington
Beach on guitarist Frank's birthday.
Poor Frank-after partying too hard
he went outside to throw up, only to
be accosted, cuffed and questioned
for an hour by the H.B.P.D. before
China White even went on! After a
tuning up session (on stage) that
took nearly 20 minutes, they finally
played 3 or 4 songs before storming
off the stage and to the bar. What a
way to spend a birthday!...Poison
13 is kind of up-in-the-air now-bass-
ist Chris Gates and drummer Mong
Bishop have moved to L.A. to start
their own band, while rumors filtering
back from Texas claim that Tim Kerr,
guitarist extraordinaire, ex-Big
Boys, ex-Poison 13, has re-joined
the -13. Come what may, we'll keep
you posted...X has been playing
under the assumed name of Chris-
tine and the Naildrivers, not only
to break in Dave Alvin, but also Tony
Gilkyson, who quit Lone Justice to
join X on rhythm guitar... Mothers,
hold onto your children-The Serial
Killers are on the loose! This new
Philly band won over audiences at
a recent Samhain show with their
blend of hard metal rock and a theat-
rical stage presence. Look for them
near you but be careful-you never
know what might happen when The
Serial Killers hit the road...Speak-

(a cassette called Trendy Candies
for Heart Attack Victims) when their
drummer was badly burned. Their
van's radiator cap exploded while on
route to a gig somewhere in South-
California... Maybe staying
away from automobiles for awhile
would be wise... GBH are alive and
well and on the road. Their new
album, Midnight Madness and
Beyond, shows that the band is still
kicking and hitting like crazy...Like

MA is planning two new releases:
one is a set of American experimen-
tal music, and the other is a music
concept tape. Their new catalog is

to... Sound of Pig Music has shifted
location. The former Flushing, NY
tape label is now located in Great
Neck, NY. They have an impressive
roster of over 40 cool tapes from
different artists: SOP Music, 28 Bel-
lingham Lane, Great Neck, NY 11023
(and any tape may be had in trade
or check)... The Dickies have a new
cassette only release out from ROIR
tapes (611 Broadway, Suite 725, NY,
NY 10012). Entitled We Aren't The
World, it has all their greatest stuff,
including seven never before re-
leased songs (among them their ear
liest 1977 studio demos)... Some
thing else to check out on ROIRS is
the brand new release from the UK
Subs, Left For Dead, more previ-
ously unavailable material which is
worth having...And still another
ROIR release, one which true ska,
reggae and jazz fans alike will ap-
preciate, is the reunion of The Skata-
lites the original group of Jamacan
musicians who later influenced
groups like Madness, the Specials,
Bad Manners and more. Together
