With the coming of Summer and
nice weather and all, I'm sure most
of you are going to want something
to keep you out late and having a
good time. Well, I think the folks at
Powell/Peralta have the tonic to
cure those Summertime blues. It's
1986 and the first new Powell board
is the Tommy Guerrero deck. With
a graphic update already, this is the
hottest skate to hit the streets in
months. Like most of the Powell
decks it doesn't have the deep dish
concave like some sticks on the mar-
ket. But it definitely has one of the
most comfortable. I think Powell is
concentrating on this "little" board as
a skate everything shape at 29.2"
x 9.5" as opposed to the longer
Skull & Sword or Ripper. With a
smooth fish shape and a 15" kicktail
it looks great, the only thing struc-
turally "wrong" with this board that
should be corrected, is, you guessed
it, rear wheel wells. There is too
much stress for such a little wheel
base under 15" and the wells defi-
nitely lead to cracks and delamina-
tions in the tail area under heavy
street abuse. However, this is a
"must see" at your local shop, or, get
someone you know to buy one so
you can try it. Or how about this,
write Powell for the complete low-
down on all of their latest stuff. 501

Well, on the underside of this street
machine we tried out the new Ma-
drid Underground Truks. Justa bout
the biggest and hopefully the last com-
pany to join the "we make everything"
market, i.e. Variflex, Action Sports.
These companies, I think, are spread-
ing themselves too thin to have any
kind of quality control. Stick to what
you know; if you know wood you
make boards, if you know metal make
trucks. These trucks turn alright and
they hold wheels very well for a true
spin. The thing I disliked was that I
had a hell of a time putting them on
the board. when I lined up the holes
the baseplate pattern seemed to be
a bit off-center. Once assembled on
the board I didn't change the stock
adjustment, and when I pushed it
away from me it crabbed to the right
drastically. It felt this way when I rode
it too. These trucks look cool with the
black finish and they grind really well
without copers or what have you. Just
a little bit smaller than 159s so they
will fit on most street boards. They
come in black and silver. Madrid, PO

With all of the hype in the maga-
zines for Slime Balls, I thought for
sure that these would be the hottest
wheels to ride, but I guess I over-
amped. I do admit these are excellent
wheels (64mm x 97A, center set).
good slide, no chips, even wearing.
The graphics on the wheels probably
cost more than the urethane, though,
("No balls, no glory." pretty cheesy).
I do like the idea that they are making
more middle of the duro-spectrum
wheels like 92As. They are great for
all situations and they are the best
for a controlled slide. Many colors,
many choices. Write Slime Balls, 4401

The new Super Bird is here and
includes a special notched riser pad
for a more secure mounting situation
and longer life. It also comes with
the hardware for installation. New ge-
ometry makes hanging-up less of an
occurance and allows the ride to con-
tinue to roll. By Mel O Dee of Call-
fornia, available at shops of the skate
genre.

Note: In last month's review we f'd up
on the Psychotic board. The kick tail,
is not of the "Slasher" flip-tail genre
but a medium type of angle. Saw the.
