HOCKEY PUCK, BULLSHIT, HORSE- gelist Jim Brown described the theme
SHIT, HORSERADISH!!
What has the world come to when
religious fanatics start complaining
about the theme song of a comedy
TV series that went off the air over
twenty years ago? Of course, most
of you kiddies out there don't know
what the hell we're talkin' about here.
Go get your mommy's and daddy's,
have them sit you down on the edge
of your bed and tell you about Mr. Ed
the talking horse. It seems that Evan-
74
song 'A Horse is a Horse" highly
praises Satan when you play it back
wards, i.e. the words "the source is
Satan" and "someone sung this song
for Satan" can be heard. Oh these
poor people. Poor, poor people. After
all these years, who was to know?
Did you notice that a portion of the
very same song can be heard on
Future Primitive"? What is the current
price of eggs in China?... If you plan
on making San Francisco a stop the
next time your band decides to tour,

there... Be on the lookout for a benefit
in memory of Lee Paris,(who died
last winter), a Philadelphia DJ and
promoter who was responsible for
mobilizing the independent scene in
Philly long before it was cool to be
doing that sort of thing. The show
features ten bands: The Vels, Scram,
Ruin, Poor Girls, Pay Attention,
Crash Course in Science, Stranger
to Stranger, Bunnydrums, Das Ya-
hoos and M Fakter. It's an all day

than to shake up your neighbors with
this at loud volume! Write to P.O. Box
824932, Atlanta, GA 30324 for info...
Japan's Shonen Knife have released

Blood on the Saddle's new album,
Poison Love just came out on Suite
Beat Records. Their first record in al-

of crazy Tex-Mex songs and twisted
cabin fever murder-spree lyrics. Check
out "Abilene." They even dedicated a
song to D. Boon (R.I.P.)... German
hardcore bunch The Smarties have
come out with Whole Buncha Weirdos
on BYO... All the rumors you've heard
are true the Adolescents are re-
uniting for live gigs as well as record-
ing an Ep for summer release... Tu-
pelo Chain Sex have been keeping
a relatively low profile, but recently
burst back onto the LA scene with a
bang. It started one ill-fated afternoon
at the Cat and Fiddle, an English pub
in Hollywood, where the Chainsex
gang, Blaster Bill Bateman, and
Rank and File's Jeff Ross horrified
none other than Rod Stewart and his
soccer-playing cronies. After a few.
beer-soaked hours, the crew got thrown
out of the Cat and Fiddie (no mean
feat, that) and found their way down
the street to The Soundcheck, (the
happening place on Sundays in LA,
known for their wild jam nights). Limey heads, stay out of the radiation rain.
Dave stormed in wearing a peacock-
blue Spandex bodysuit, covered with
see-through fringed nylon bloomers,
a burgundy salin smoking jacket,
wooden Dutch clogs and topped off
with a pink lel and a 4% wide straw
sombrero. Half of Tupelo, Blaster
Bill and Jeff took over the stage and
started a sleazy striptease beat while
Dave and the Lame Flames began
parading around, removing their
clothes and singing "Visa, Master-
charge, American Express-every-
body knows that sex is the best."The
regular customers looked on in horror,
while Dave clambered over the tops
of tables and knocked drinks over.
After about 10 minutes, Soundcheck
manager Ba Ba got irate and tried to
stop Limey Dave & Co. while a video
camera rolled on, recording the whole
thing. Needless to say, Tupelo Chain
Sex are now permanently 86'd from
the Soundcheck and Limey Dave has
threatened to sue Ba Ba and the club
because one of his wooden shoes
was broken. Oh well, that's show biz
... On the more serious side, Social
Distortion is finishing up their long-
awaited Lp and Mike Ness, who
used to be rather notorious in his
controlled substance ingesting hab-
its, has cleaned up his act immensely,
to the point (no pun intended) of S.D.
playing LA City Council-sponsored
anti-drug rallies. Congratulations, Mike.
Also reputedly gone straight edge is
Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks, and
Bob Forrest of Thelonius Monster,
who now spends his spare time gar-
dening instead of downing Budweisers
...What's the world coming to? Pow
ertools, the trendy yuppie-brat pack
haven, recently hosted a skate rock
night. Tony Alva built a ramp inside
the place, and mingling with the Volks-
wagon Rabbit set were the likes of
Mark Munski, Christian Hosoi, The
Red Devils, Mondo and Mike Ball,
who says he and Alva are re-forming
their band, the Skoundrelz. Power-
tools has also opened a new club,
called Seventh Grade - booking live
bands on a regular basis. Patrons are
advised to bring their own dance hats
Castle Malaga, one of the swing-
in'est apartment buildings in Holly-
wood, hosted a giant bash recently
in their large basement. Much to the
landlord's chagrin, Faster Pussycat,
The Little Kings and Shanghai
played at full volume to the packed
crowd. Kim Foley even crawled out
of the wordwork for this one, as did
Chili Peppers, Flea and Anthony,
members of glam combos Barbie
and L.A. Guns, and the leader of the
Flends, Scott Morrow, who virtually
emptied the place when he started
throwing home-made stink bombs. All
in all, the party was a success, with
a morning-after debris level compar-
able to New Orleans after Mardis
Gras... Dave Alvin, who's just joined
X on guitar, has been recording a new
album with none other than Bob
Dylan, while Billy Zoom, former gui-
tarist for X, has started working on a
solo album for Electra. X graced the
stage of Wolfgang's in S.F. recently.
Their near ninety-minute set wore out
shoes and necks as the crowd racked
and rolled. Until next month rock-
