stalked a neighborhood sometime, somewhere, someplace. None of that matters
now. No, not here in this story. Another continent? Well, yes. Maybe. Laser guided
bombs, cluster bombs, spit and blood and a whole hell of a lot of crying in an
airstrike. What would the kids think if that sort of incendiarism fell onto Etcetera-
ville, any state U.S.A.? In four days, on April 15th, mommies will cry, some babies
will die, but today a bunch of guys board a United Airlines flight bound for Eugene,
Oregon, making the plane tail heavy (tail noisy is more like it). FRIDAY. Contents
of flying tin-skinned winged thing: Two industry types, one long-haired pinko media type, hell-uv-uh lot of returning
to Oregon types, first time to Oregon types, passing through Oregon types, and some hag-bad-attitude stewardess-
flight attendant types versus some loud-on-their-way-to-a-street-style-contest-in-a-parking-lot-professional skate-
boarder-types. "What do you mean 'No complimentary drinks'? You ran out of food in the isle right in front of
mine and we paid for six round-trip tickets." "But sir, we are giving everyone who didn't recieve an in-flight meal two
packets of peanuts and taking your name's down for a voucher worth twenty five dollars." "I want more than two
packets of peanuts! What do twenty-five dollar vouchers taste like?" "But sir, only two!" THERE'S NO NEED
FOR A ROLL CALL AT THIS STAGE OF THE GAME, BUT IT'S GONNA HAPPEN ANYWAY. YOU SEE, THERE
ARE SOME THINGS THAT ARE JUST OUT OF OUR CONTROL-Johnee Kopp, Jesse Martinez, Tony Guerrero,
Christian Hosoi, Bryce Kanights, Tommy Guerrero, Steve Rocco and Steve Caballero."Where's my 'Interview
Magazine Holmes?" "Here Christ, take it. How come you haven't been in there yet? You're far past the mark on
the fifteen minutes of fame chart." "Yeah, I know, 'Interview' is fully missin' out." INDUSTRY TYPE SPEAKS:

Not a second went by without something dastardly wild occuring to drop the jaws of the assembled. Here, with jaws
dropped, are (left to right) Cab. Tony Guerrero, Lance, Johnee Kopp, Rocco and Jesse howling with Tommy Guerrero.
"Yeah, Jesse doesn't look like Freddie Mercury anymore, now that he's shaved off his moustache." JESSE, ON
SKATING THE HOME TURE WITH NATAS: "Yeah me and homeboy just don't skate together anymore. That's just
the way it is Don't get me wrong. Holmes is still the bro, but I can't be havin' him see all my new shit. I'd rather
win contests than have a buddy "NOTE: Natas Kaupas and Lance Mountain didn't make this flight because it was
over-booked out of LAX Strike two against United Airlines. Deplaning in the rain in Eugene, Oragon, and believe
it or not, Jesse actually brought an umbrella. They say it always rains in Oregon. What good is that? "It's gonna
be O.K. tomorrow for the contest" Dänn said. (Pronounced Don. Don't ask why, he's a big guy and he can spell
his name any way he wants to.) He's part owner of Williamette Sport Center, the shop that's sponsoring this soon
to be historical event. TEN THIRTY P.M. A rainy Friday night in Eugene, Oregon at a skate shop looking at Vision
skate videos and laughing at some of the hams in front of the camera. Television does make you look ten pounds
heavier. Like a Doug Henning magic trick gone haywire, Mark Gonzales and Steve Rocco glide through the front
door. Earlier that day the Gonz got kicked out of one of the other skate shops in town for standing on a new deck.
Also, Rocco talked the Gonz into dishing out six thousand dollars for a nineteen-eighty three Toyota. There's a
motel room, there's a funky television (color) and there's two twin beds with lights sticking out of the walls just
above the headboard that summarily get knocked off more than once by the L.H.P.M.T. The T.V. (color) says 'Miami
Vice,' 'Miami Vice.' A predictable story line, not much dialogue. Where did these lady cops with guns who can't act
come from? The color spectrum of this show is designed after a random grab from a jar of Flintstone vitamins.
Eddie Olmos is the only one with any acting ability. You know, from "Zoot Suit," and "Blade Runner." SATURDAY."It's
a good day by Oregon standards," he said. He happened to be from San Francisco and was as ignorant to the local
meteorology as were the rest of the pacifist terrorists on the doom flight out of California In other words, it was
overcast. Rain? A possibility. BLACK ANGUS: A chain of restaurants and hotels (or is it motels?). In their parking
lot, a far, back-out-of-the-way sectioned-off area, was a crowd of about five hundred to, maybe, three million people
(just kidding, maybe six hundred) surrounding a small battleground composed of some kickturn ramps, quarter pipes,
itty-bitty jump ramps, parking blocks, weird things and a car. A car..with fins. A car... totally covered in multi-colored
spray paint. It's for sale (inquire within). Somehow, out of nowhere in particular, appear Lance and Natas. How
that came about we'll never know, but they are officially here. Yeah? O.K. A hoard of amateurs wail about in the
interzone. Pure health. Pure wreckless abandon. Pure street style. Energy flowing like a babbling brook. The spec-
