MIFFED AT MITS AND TIFF
What is a Mitsy & Tiffy?? It sounds
like they wear their 5 pairs of Vans
on their ears. The female population
of skaters is low, but it's good to
know there are two bubble-heads
out there trying! If you want respect
from male skaters, at least try and
show them you're trying to learn. Do
you wear your helmet on your foot?
Get a grip.

FURTHER INSPIRATION
Okay, I've had it! I was re-reading
my Dec. issue for the millionth time
when I turned to the letters page.
One does not usually find letters
from girls there and I read the two
you had printed. Reading them was
almost enough to make me asham-
ed of being female. I assume the
female readers of THRASHER are
in the minority and if those women
represent them, I am becoming
more and more outnumbered. I am
18 and just this past summer my
good friend Dennis began teaching
me how to skate. I still suck, but I am
learning. I'm intelligent enough to
feel incredibly insulted when I read
the letters from Shocked/Bored and
Mitsy & Tiffy. Where in the hell do
they get off representing girls who
skate and/or hang around skaters
as dumb, bubble-headed bimbos
who only think of using sex to get
guys. (I quote: "We'll do anything for
a place to skate...we are really not
all that bad looking either")!?
Ever since began reading
THRASHER and skating/photo-
graphing I have made many new
and great friends. Unfortunately
there are many people who do not
take female skaters seriously. There
is one guy who takes every oppor
tunity to be rude and make it sound
like I'm a big joke. Luckily, all of my
friends support me and can always
count on them to make me feel a lot
better.
Girls, don't become a skate
widow! Get involved! I started out
photographing my friends and en-
joyed it so much I began skating. I'm
buying a board soon and as soon as
spring thaw hits I'll be out practicing.
(Lord knows I need it, but I'm getting
better!)

CHIVALRY LIVES
I'm writing is response to your let-
ter titled "Who are the real losers" in
the Jan '86 issue. This Jane Doe
sounds like she's feeling kinda blue.
I hope she's reading this 'cause I've
got a few words to say to her. It's too.
bad that there are so many assholes
in this world and so few skaters.
Don't be discouraged by these
types. I have many friends who are
girls and skate. They are progres-
sing incredibly. We always help them
learn new tricks. Real skaters don't
read GQ, don't get caught, question
authority, can't read "No Tresspas-
sing" signs, aren't anti-religious and
don't cuss at girls.

The other night my friend and I
looked up half-pipe in the dictionary.
Closest thing was...habit-forming.

I read the letter written by the ska-
ter from California (Jane Doe) and I
had to write. I'm a girl skater too.
When I first started skating about a
year ago I too was harrassed by a
bunch of guys. Boys seem to think
they're so cool with their boards, but
whenever I get a new one they say
how much it sucks. I'm as good as
some of those guys, but they always
put me down. About a week ago I
met a few guys with boards. They
started talking to me and after
awhile we started showing each
other what we knew. We went back
everyday and we helped each other
out. Jane, hang in there and don't
give up.
IN SO MANY WORDS
Someone
S. Carolina
Along comes Betina Bones' as
your ideal, compliant girlfriend wait-
ing for Her Man. "In Other Words,"
that's a joke, these are the same
macho attitudes spread throughout
this ragged mag. Which staff
member made up the stereotype
'cool girlfriend I wonder? The sick
thing is that I don't think you even
see anything wrong with such an at-
titude. Don't you realize it's not your
little wanker that makes you a SKA-
TER and her a "betty," it's this society,
including THRASHER, reinforcing
the, "That's How Things Should Be."
I'm off my skate with a wasted
ankle from the ramp for a few
months, but I know I really don't de-
serve any sympathy, cuz I wasn't
where (?) I belonged, inside next to
the warm cozy stove drinking tea.
Where are you skate women?

The 'In Other Words story in Dec. 's
issue was penned by skater Vicky
Morrow and submitted to us as a
finished manuscript. Certainly all
female skaters are welcome at any
heavy duty ramp session. However
when the lokes start dominating and
snaking it's every skater from them-
selves. Of course, all persons are
welcome to contribute
THRASHER. Turn to page 56 and
read on. T-ed.
