Well, it's spring cleaning time in
L.A. Everyone is ridding their closets
of last year's skolatons, reorganizing
their lives, dropping bad habits and
(hopefully) picking up on some equal
ly revolting new ones. A bunch of
LA scene standby's, in hiding for
an extended period of time, have
crept out of the woodwork to strut
their stuff latoly most noticeably
Blood On The Saddle, who have
completed work on their second rec
ord. CH3 left Enigma behind and
have a brand new ripping set, every
bit as chaotic as ever. Tupelo Chain
Sex has done some house cleaning;
they're breaking in a new rhythm sec-
tion and should be on a tour of the
Northwest by the time you read this
But Girls! Girls! Girls! is definitely
where it's at in Tinsel Town all the
musically inclined chicks are kicking
ass so hard that the guys are starting
to get scared. Get a load of this activ-
ity: Former Cambridge Apostle and
Castration Squad member Barb
Wire has started up a new combo,
Killer Zombie Girls. The slithery,
squalid and stupelyin sex lutions,
The Lame Flames are back in
tion, with their sex-crazed, alcohol
soaked rip songs. Debbie Dia-
mond has ro joined Feline ne dis
taff answer to the New York Dolls).
As if that isn't enough, The Bangles'
new album, A Different Light, is out
and the Prince-penned single, "Man-
ic Monday is getting mega-airplay
(Bangle Sue Hoffs wasn't comment-
ing on the alleged Prince FOREplay,
though!). The Screamin' Sirens are
about to record demos with X's John
Doe at the board. The Pandoras
have a brand new album Stop Pro-
tending out on Rhino Records, and
are about to tour, and a new Pan-
dora's off-shoot, Boo, has been get
ting local raves from club hoppers.
Get with it, guys, or you'll all be left
in the dust amidst the clatter of spike-
heels and clouds of cheap perfume
...There are a few good new bands
Melanie (keyboards) and Paula
(guitar) of the wild and sweaty
Pandoras
crapping up of the co-od nature
most notably, The Law, a punkabilly
transplant from Seattle. The Mar-
shalls Of Glennie, a wild glam/slam
combo from behind the Orange Cur-
tain, and the Little Kings, who're
generating quite a stir with their a
Texas cow-metal sound. Speaking of
Texas, Polson 13 have undergone
a few changes ex-Big Boy. Chris
Gates, has moved from bass to
guitar, and they've got a new bassist,
who'll be ready to tour with them
come April?... The Red Hot Chill
Peppers, who recently (AHEM!)
graced the pages of none other than
Playboy sold out the Palace in LA,
but catastrophe-monger Bob Forrest
did a decidedly anarchy awan dive
off the stage, right on top of some
poor blind guy. Mr. Forrest got
kicked out right in the middle of the
set, resulting in much on-and off-
stage uproar... Last but not least,
two bitchin' new groups from the
Sacramento-San Jose area - Big
Hair, who, in addition to having two
gorgeous femme singers, (scanty
outfits, undulating hips, you know,
the works) do brash cow-punk with
surfy stuff and bits of craziness, like
a cover Disco Inferno." The other
band is the Cactus Liquors Mad,
wild, drunken and frenzied, these
guys (including Mike and Dusty ox
Tales Of Terror) produce a bizarte
western tinged wall of slop Dof-
initely worth checking out YEE-
HAW! Also from the area are the rad-
ical Code Of The West who're re-
leasing an album and touring Aus-
tralia this May. There was a benefit
wake held at the Club Lingerie for
the families of Patrick Woodward
and Ricky Intveld, the bassist and
drummer in Ricky Nelson's back-up
band, who perished in the highly
publiced plane crash at the begin-
ning of the year. Several LA. musi-
clans got together for the occasion.
Local artists included The Blasters,
Los Lobos, The Knitters, Dwight
Yoakum, Lone Justice and Top
Jimmy And The Rhythm Pigs. The
festivity level wasn't anywhere near
what it would've been under different
circumstances. Spotted at the show
was Nick Lowe, who's been skulk-
ing around various L.A. watering
holes with Blaster Dave Alvin. Mr.
Lowe is producing demos for the
Blasters and will probably produce
their next album The Beat Far
