The sessions that take place here
generally consist of fun, friends and 100%
raging. This was definitely the case during
each of several visits that we enjoyed. A
Sunday session included a BBQ courtesy
of Grant and Mr. and Mrs. Fukuda.
I heard tell of other ramp structures on
Oahu that we didn't get a chance to check
out. Also, there are skate scenes on the
other islands that would have to be looked
into on a return trip. Settling back into my
airseat I cinched up my belt for landing in
S.F. As the moon hovered over my first
glimpse of the California coast in a week I
summed up my experience in the islands.
So much had happened that there is
barely enough room here to skim the sur-
face. The little things like...plate lunches,
a Hawaiian staple consisting of tradi-
tional style picnic lunch type things served
up on a paper plate. Plate lunches are
available in fast food variety off of catering
trucks parked at the beach as well as a
healthier version that can be found served
up from a homestyle kitchen on a two lane
highway headed to the north shore...the
weather, consistently 80's keeps you in a
constant sweat which feels good com-
pared to the foggy chill that I was returning
to...and the hospitality of the locals,
whether natives or transplants from main-
land points, was almost overwhelming. I
had to hide my plane ticket so they
wouldn't tear it up, forcing me to extend my
stay. Skaters and their families flung open
households to our visiting tour without a
second thought. Full-course breakfasts
and Luau feasts were the rule every time
we had a chance to sit down. A special
thanks goes to the Fukudas, the Oblows,
the Boyles, and the Burns' families for
making our stay more than we could have
hoped for... and, lastly, the beauty of the
islands and certainly the skating and skim-
ming is more than you could ever realize
from a cheap travel brochure.
