THE GUY THAT DESIGNED
THAT COVER PERISHED OFF
THE COAST OF SIBERA LAST
WEEK WHILE TRYING TO
DEFECT TO THE U.S.S.R.
Boy did you guys mess up! Why
did you put the Russian (actually
Soviet Union's) hammer and sickle
above a picture of Czechoslovakia?
If that didn't already (frankly) piss me
off-the first page of "Culture Clash"
had someting written using Russian
letters. Czechoslovakia has NEVER
used Russian letters (whatever it
said wasn't even in Russian). Let's
set the record straight... Czechos-
lovakia is technically an indepen-
dant nation, if the people had a
choice they'd tell the #1 Soviets to
1 off!
ALLAH ALVA

Mr. Alva, if you ever read this, you
are a great inspiration and a true
genius of the skateboard world. I
possess a 77 'boarder magazine
with your second interview in it con-
taining pictures of you in your room
and a caption below saying, "Hey,
look, ma, farrout and phrases like,
"If kids are trying to copy me, they
better be ready to suffer the conse-
quences." You are the best, a
pioneer and a legend. There are a
few questions I must ask. What ever
happened to guys like Bobby Piercy.
Steve Alba, Doug "Pineapple
Saladino, the Logans, Tom Inouye
and all the other guys of that era?
Thank you and latex.
Duane Rubinowits

Yeah, what did ever happen to those
guys? Ted.
THIRST QUENCHER
This is focused on you boyz out
there who don't have anything better
to do than bust on others. "Jane
Doe" is out there tryin' to ride, "Sim"
is over here with his X-mas board,
afraid to ride cause you're gonna call
him a "poseur" or a "trendy" I believe
we all know that the masses have
arrived...Be happy! We no longer
have to wait weeks before our equip
arrives in the mail, we no longer have
to drive several hours to replenish
our thirst for terrain. These kids are
our future. NOW. They are gonna be
the deciding factor on whether or not
this sport survives. Yea, skating will
always be here, but now we have
choices. Things are starting to go
our way. City's are building ramps
'cause those kids are making the de-
mands. So next time you wanna bust
on someone, think about it... Look
win yourself. Your attitude reflects
you as a person. When you look at
someone and make negative as-
sumptions towards them, you're only
thriving on insecurities of your own.
So hey, for the sport and for yourself
...be positive and skate for fun.

OPPOSEURING OPINION
What is the word "poseur"? All you
rad (?)" skaters out there who yell
poseur at the first skater you don't
know had better watch who you're
calling what. You can tell a real skat-
er from a poseur because a real skat-
er would laugh in your face, showing
he knows the truth. The only skater
who yells "poseur" is a poseur who
needs to say it because it makes
him feel less insecure.

OUT OF THE PAN
The 3rd death of skateboarding
approaches. It's coffin will be nailed
shut by a 7 year old "hardcore" with
a spiked cut and a soft belly. I've
seen them come and go since we
started in 1963. In 5 years, we'll still
be on the street, and the posers will
be into something else. Pan will
fiddle while the protruded decks
burn!

I'm writing in response to a few of
your ads for low quality parts. Why
do you even bother to put these in?
I think that this is just leading young.
impressionable skaters into buying
equipment that won't serve their pur-
poses or live up to the company's
lies. Keep up the great work with the
mag. Look for more from the Lancas-
ter skate scene, it rips.
HAVE A NICE DAY
Chris Weisser
Lancaster, PA
The day after X-Mas my friend and
I went to Berkeley to these beautiful
14 pipe walls surrounding some ten-
nis courts. All was going well until
some bigger skater-types came along
and asked if they could borrow our
boards. We reluctantly agreed and
they returned our boards then bor-
rowed Ted's board again and took off
with it. Naturally we chased them but
they got away, besides, what could
two 14 and 15 year olds do to four
16 to 18 year olds? I hope those 4
bastards are reading this-it doesn't
take talent or skill to steal from smaller
kids. Well, I guess I was just wrong
in assuming that skating and skaters
is/are different than other sports:
united.
