ON THE REAL ROCK 'N
ROLL SCENE
It's been a rock 'n roll summer,
lending lots of music action all
across the Westernized world.
Bands have been tourin'hard, playin
hard and making hard music. For
one, Big David Lee Roth and his
even bigger female bodybuilder
body guards have left the institution
of mega rock band Van Halen. Most
of you little rats are too young to re-
member way back in the late 70's
when Halen was responsible for
most of the music blasted during
heated skate sessions, along with
AC/DC, Ted Nugent and the
strange new group called the Sex
Pistols, David Lee is now replaced
by red-dude. Sammy Hagar as the
new bellower for Halen. Sammy, if
you open your history books, kicked
off the vocals on Montrose's debut.
album, and continued on, solo, with
several of his own hit Lp's...Agent
Orange just came out of the studio
and are about ready to press a new
Lp. Someone said the title will be
This is The Voice. The guys down
at SST are just shovelin' the re-
leases out the door. They include
two of ex-Black Flag bassist Chuck
Dukowskis band projects, Wurm
and SWA Look and liston for these,
because they both deliver a good
punch-rock like you won't believe.
Also on SST, an Lp by Overkill, that
hits you where it counts in the rockin'
roll department. Out of Finland, a
new Lp by Smack, a band that
blows away Hanol Rocks, their na-
tive predecessors. The Lp. entitled
Smack On You is vicious. Kinda like
a mixture of the Dolls, the Stooges,
Los Olvidados, The Pistols and
Dead Boys. Real rock....Look for the
N.O.T.A. tour out in the mid-west,
and west coast this summer as they
follow up their new, self-titled Lp.
Also keep an ear out for a new Lp by
Scratch Acid, that truly wonderful
godsend band. D.R.I have a new
Lp out entitled Dealing Wan it It is re-
sponsible for blowing the front door
off its hinges down at THRASHER
HQ's. H.R. vocalist from the in-
famous Bad Brains has released
an album entitled it's about LUV
This is not what you'd expect from
the volatile yeller, encompassing
some molodic jazzy numbers as
well as some good and fast stuff...as
of lately, the Bad Brains them
selves have been playing together
and around to some unlimited, ec-
static response...NEWS FROM
PHILADELPHIA (and other as-
sorted areas)...In just a few more
weeks the Opera House (where
Husker Du played some time ago)
will be ready for shows. This will be
the first time in a while that a large
size hail (the place can hold over
500 people) has been available for
alterative shows.. Dead Milkmen
have finished their big U.S. tour and
are back in Philadelphia. Their
album is selling well. Little Gentle
men have gone back into the studio
and are three-fourths done with ma-
terial for their next album...Decon-
trol have a new tape availa-
ble. New band, Pay Attention, ap-
HR
peared here not too long ago with
Jeffrey Lee Pierce (ex-Gun Club)
and really rocked the place...Execu-
tive Slack's album is finally availa-
ble. It's called Nausea. The band
leaves to tour Europe in a week or
two they plan to be there for
about a month. Hopefully a U.S. tour
will be planned soon after. In the
meantime, pick up a copy of Nausea
and see for yourself how good it is
real industrial/noiz/dance music
that grabs you, shakes you around
and never lets go. Children's
Crusade is working on a tape, and
so far the material sounds really
good Shows are happening again

ater (two new D.C. bands) played
there and tore...The drummer from
Reptile House has left that band
and gone on to drum with Samhain
(who are now in New York playing
ggs) Grey March, from Baltimore,
have been playing shows in the area
and their fans have been growing in
droves...That's all from the Under-
ground.
Ring, ring, rinng, ring! A hand
flails about to silence the irritating
disturbance, smashing personal ar
tifacts as they are abruptly knocked i
to the grouund. The source of the
noise continues, the morning alarm
wakes up the mind to reality. The
deadline is here, where is that pen?
Sleep in the eyes, a bit groggy, but
then the stylus touches down and
the explosion of the Puszone is here,
wild and feverous as ever. Welcome
to the Puszone, where this month,
once again for $1.00, the second in
the series of flexis put out by Dig
and Kalv in the UK is available to
you through the Pushead mail order.
Entitled Anglican Scrape Attic, it fea-
tures tracks by that U.S. speed metal
outfit Hirax, Japanese Bands Exe-
cute and Lipcream, and the speed-
core thrash dealings of UK bands
Concrete Sox and Sacrilege. A
great flexi for this low price, so all
you fans of the Putrid Evil flexi, don't
miss out. And, as usual, send three
(3) 22-cent stamps for stickers and
that mail ordor catalog which is
finally cut and should be banging at
your door this very minute. Any vinyl,
tapes or info also helps the Puszone
exist. So that Puszone address for

your undenying support and watch
that ringing in those ears!!
To the many bummed readers of
the Christ On Parade article in the
September issue, the color section
was printed black and made those
sentences illegible. To make contact
with the band send two (2) 22-cent
stamps to receive stickers, flyers, 1-
shirt info and more to Christ On

Perhaps one of the finest German
thrash outfits is Inferno. Epileptic
flailing fits into the realm of speed
velocity are what they became
quickly notorious for. A new small
label in the U.S. entitled Subversive
decided to put out a seven inch by

piles it all in, with ferocious intensity.
zipping shord changes of frantic ac-
thvity and smart lyrical assertions
translated in both German and En-
glish. Talented at what they perform,
Inferno promptly assail the decibels
with feverous excitement in Visions
of the Future", "Suspense" and the
stunning title track that blisters with
sheer force. Untamed aggression let
loose with distinct characteristics
that are invincible in a growing field.
Just the right amount of harmonies
to keep it bouncing in your head long
after you've heard it. This single intro-
duces a band that has a wide follow-
ing to a new audience, and it's wel
worth the infernal effort. P.O.B. 552,

Did you catch them while they
toured America? Who? Well Ger

B.YO. chalks in at one of the most
harmonious hardcore records to
grace the turntable yet. Open Eyes
Open Ears, Brains To Think And A
Mouth To Speak is the longthy title
which opens with a new version of
the classic "Future Dreams." Then
the musical madness stirs up the
dust with many deliveries of fast to
calm efforts each packing all the
right instrumental licks. Each song
holds just the right amount of adren-
alin that will keep it charging through-
out your cranium with occasional
outbursts through your mouth. The
vocals of Anton are a bit abrasive.
while he still keeps a good flowing
melody that donsn't bite sour, en-
hancing the guitar work of Uls and
Craoder's very appealing bass lines.
What adds the biggest result to the
Upright Citizens sound is Mario's
drumming Using the whole kit, he
works it eargerly without that repeti-
tous edge, splashing the decibels
at all those cutting edge points. To-
gether as a band the Upright Citi
zens work hard to combine a well-
laced international flavor of rhythms
that will appeal to the majority of
hardcore lovers and oven those who
just slightly dabble in it. A very good
collection of some of the best Up-
right Citizens' songs. On B.YO

When you're expecting the unex-

thought that out of Ontario, Canada.

that disc down on your turntable and

cranked up the volume, It would fry
your eyes right out of their sockets
because it was so intensely fast with
a crazed no-holds-barred approach
to the thrash attack. Yes, that's what
happened, Sons Of Ishmael took
me by surprize. Distorted guitars
hauling at a rapid pace as each song
delivers a split-second barrage of
chaotic mayhem. Short and sweet.
