AND ABROAD
Andre and England's Shane Rouse are shining in the always
internationally flavored freestyle scene. With the rad skating
being done by the likes of Claus, Danny Webster (England),
Nicki Guerrero (Denmark), Tony Jansson (Sweden) and many
others, there can be no doubting the fact that the Europeans
have done their homework and have established themselves
as skating powers to be reckoned with. Only one question
remains when and where will the show come down and who
will be there when the dust settles?

All Summer long skaters have been trading continents,
skating on foreign soil and experiencing different cultures.
While a strong crew of American skaters have been visiting
other shores, a healthy contingency of Europeans have
begun invading sessions right here in the States. Never before
has skateboarding held such international status. Not until
now have we realized how closely matched the degree of
skating is on a world wide level.

Recent contest results reflect the mix and match nature of event
rosters these days. Witness: Gregor Rankin, hands down, rips off first
place at Mile High, Statesman Tod Swank shakes up the Euro ams
with his presence. Uli Neweiner, Frank Messman and Thomas Keller,
from West Germany, bounced up and down the Cal coast for a holiday
skate romp while fellow Germ. Claus Grabke made an American debut.
Billy Ruff, Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen demolished
everything they could get their skates on. Frenchman Pierre
