NEW MODELS
It seems that some guys think
that they are the Ultimate find it
necessary to categorize people who
they've never even spoken to. They
just say, "Look at that trendy with the
new Jeff Sims betcha he can't
skate worth shit. Besides trendies
there are mods, headbangers,
jocks, feather queens, hicks and a
long list of stupid names. Wouldn't it
be a lot better if people could treat
others as individuals instead of the
group they think that person be-
longs in? Open your mind and you
may find that a headbanger, jock,
etc. could be a neat person. To all
cynics: try it. Life is much more in-
teresting and fun if you have friends
in all these different groups that
you've made up. And that trendy
could even be an OK skater. Maybe
he just felt like dressing stupid the
day you saw him.

SKANKIN' FOR PRODUCTS
I would like to thank the Eastern
Skating Association via Thrasher.
The Ramp Jam has been an inspira-
tion to all skaters in the VA Beach
area and has helped to overthrow
the too-long dominant sport - surf-
ing. In the products toss after the
contest, a fellow skater got a Gullw
ing truck and two of Jeff Phillip's
decks. Being generally puny he only
got away with the truck. I would also
like to thank Hosoi for his late night 8
foot airs and McTwists in Lynnha-
ven.

BUG THY NEIGHBOR
We've been skating for 5 years
now, and have never been hassled
by complaining neighbors, until re-
cently. While we were skating on a
small ramp in front of our house,
some fat-ass, gutter mouth bitch
called the park manager (we live in a
trailer park) and started complaining
about the noise. By the time tho
manager got to our house we were
really rippin'. Then she told us to
stop skating cause we were making
too much noise. Without resistance
we cleaned up. But no matter how
many neighbors complain, we in-
tend to skate even harder tomorrow.

POSITIVE LOCALE
I'm just writing to tell you of a sad
story that happened to my friends
and 1. Last summer we spent 9 days
building a 12 wide, 9 high half-pipe
with 10 of flat. We skated it every
day, we even got into the local jour
nal once. It seemed like such a posi-
tive way to spend our free time. As
the summer sessions blazed on,
problems with some neighbors
began. Soon we received a letter
telling my parents and I to appear at
the next zoning board meeting.
There we were told to make a com-
promise with the complaining neigh-
bor before the next month's meet-
ing. We tried to, but they wouldn't
agree on anything. So we came to
the next meeting with no com-
promise, and to make a long story
short, we lost the use of the ramp.
My reason for writing to you is to let
people know that no matter how
hard you work on building your
ramp, this kind of thing can happen
to you. So before you even trace
your first template, find the best pos-
sible location for your ramp. Another
thing you might want to think about
is getting a building permit.

SOUTH BUT NOT LEAST
You guys at Thrash need to cover
the Southern boys better. Maybe an
interview with one of the mid-south
pros. Come and check out the
scene in Texas, Lousiana and Mis-
sissippi. Johnson, Phillips, Gibson,
Wilkes and the rest shred.

NOUMENAL NOTIONS
I have been skating in Texas, the
psychedelic neon-cactus heaven of
correllation for upwards of five years
and have found it capable of creat-
ing a streaming myriad of symbolic
inferences due to the abiguous na-
ture of colloquial skate scenarios.
Skating (abstract) is an artform just
like dancing, in that it deals with the
personal aesthetics of the skater
and the resulting experience of the
onlooker. I believe skating is a viable
enough medium, yet, its full poten-
tial for intellectual rapture has not
yet been reached. I do have my
doubts about the progression of ar
tistic expression in such a biologi-
cally dependent framework. I'm not
dissenting the skate culture, there
are many creative innovators that
come to mind, Noil Blender for in-
stance. I'm sure Neil has exper
enced the blurring of symbols in
midair, the existential rapture of oc-
curing as a sentient organic being
controlling the chaos of physics
within the movement of a wooden
plane above four cylindrical entities
which exact movement. Skating is
part of life which is art, it's a strange
quirk of will that invokes a high yield
of pleasant intellectual correllation.
The amount of pleasure derived
from skating can be intensified with
knowledge, and so the masses
should concur. Hedonism encom-
passes both the body and mind. Cul-
Kit-Katt tural entropy is approaching on
Middletown, Delaware mighty technorganic wings sprout
ing the song of symbolism. Will skat-
ing find a creative niche in the avant
garde movement or will it become a
regimented contestual jock sport
like some say BMX is? Only time
and THRASHER can tell.

STOP SKATE HARASSMENT
The scene here is pretty cool.
There are about five hall- pipes that
are real close to my homestead. I
love street skating though, but the
cops in my neighborhood (Memorial
Club) are real assholes. We can't
skate anywhere without being
harassed. They gave flyers out to
every house in our neighborhood
saying, no skateboarding allowed
anywhere in the neighborhood
(bullshit), or you will be given a ticket
and the board will be taken away.
Most cops can be cool, blow it off
and not worry about it. But no, the
cops here look for skaters and
chase them down. Especially this
short, fat one with his ass hanging
out of his pants (he's the funnest to
run from though). It just sucks, you
can't skate to your friend's house
without running from a cop. We st
shred the streets though. No short.
fat pig is gonna stop me from skating
the streets. So remember, help stop
skate harassment and, SKATE
TOUGH AND SPLIT.

WHO MADE THE CUT?
We got a killer half-pipe, but we're
not gonna bore your readers about it
like everyone else does. When the
ramp isn't available, we skate
banks, benches, tables, curbs,
nuns, loading docks and boulders.
The thing we hate more than any-
thing is when wo, or our friends, are
sessioning the legendary Montague
Banks and occasionally a certain
PRO (who I won't mention) drives
up and then cuts us down, 'cuz
we're not as good as he is, (who ex-
pects us to be, we're just trying to
have fun), and then snakes us every
chance he gets. If any pro's read
this, take advise from us; if you want
to be admired, then don't put some-
one down 'cuz they're not as good
as you. Cuz, even though yer fa-
mous through mags, most of the
people in this world don't even
know, or care, who the hell you are.

BERRI INSPIRED
I'm almost 21 and have been
skating (and falling) for three years
now. Until recently I've never been
able to get air. It was like my adrena-
lin level just wasn't up to par until
June, when those Shiteheads in
Lebanon hijacked one of our TWA
planes and held hostage only Amer-
icans. It makes me furious! So right
before I attempt air on the ramp
yell, "Death to Nabih Bernil" By God,
it works every time.

SLIP OF THE STICK
My friend and I have been practic-
ing a pole plant and we're pretty
successful at it. One day my mom
and dad left and we had the car for a
while. Even though she told me that
"the car is not to leave the drive-
way," I thought it would be ok. to
move it across the street, next to our
favorite pole and really get some air.
Well I started taking some pictures
of Matt getting rad and then I tried it.
That was the fatal move, because
on my first try my foot slipped and so
did my stick, right out of my hand
and into the front windshield of
mommy's car. Needless to say, that
ruined a great session. We put the
car back and waited for the folks to
got home. We told them what hap-
pened and it blew off in no time, we
just have to pay for it.

If anybody recalls reading the
Skaters For a Cause article last oc-
tober in Thrasher, the dudes that did
this went 3,000 miles skating for
Multiple Sclerosis. My dad works for
M.S. and I think what they did was
really cool. They stopped by my
dad's office in Mpls, MN and talked
to him. He told them about me, that I
skated, and they gave me a year
subscription to Thrasher. The year
has now ended, so thanx Thrasher
and the cross country team.

I'd like to say that it makes me
mad when me and some other guys
are our skating and one of them bifts
minor and has a spaz. They usually
say "oh, gotta go home now." If I biff
I usually just get back on and keep

TOO RAD FOR MOM AND DAD
My husband and I wore shocked
and disappointed with the ad for
Santa Cruz skateboards on the in-
side cover of the July issue. We feel
it inappropriate for a magazine that
appeals to kids from as young as
seven years old. Even our sixteen
year old son, without prompting.
commented that it looked like it was
turning into a porno magazine. Your
magazine should not accept ads of
this caliber, because it's unneces-
sary for selling skateboards. If you
continue along these lines of adver-
tising I will not renew my son's sub-
scription. Also, I am sending a copy
of this issue to the P.T.A. Associa
tion of California.

FUTURE-PRIMITIVE
The future-primitive masters his environ-
ment by understanding it directly with his
body-mind. The equipment he devises
complements and enhances this under-
standing.
The Mountain deck reflects this mastery. It
a vehicle designed for those who realize
that the challenge exists anywhere and
everywhere.
If you already are the master of your
environment, then you are ready for the
latest innovation from the cranium of Mr. M.
