NOT AGAIN
I have two problems for you, you may
have already heard one from other skaters.
Me and my other friend Paul are street
skaters. I want to get into ramps real bad, I
mean bad. But there are no ramps. Well
there are, but I don't know the owners, and
most of the excellent ramp skaters (except
my cousin Mat) think that I am a trendy, and
I skate to look cool! I've been street skating
for almost two years, and have used the
skateboard before that for almost 7 years!
(I'm 16 now)

The second question is about boards. I
got a board and after one month I got a
crack on the back left wheel well! So I
bolted it down and it's OK. but my other
friend's stick snapped. I mean cracked
there also, and the list goes on for about 10
people and decks. He cracked it on the first
ride, and the store won't replace it or the
manufacturer. What should we do??????

P.S. I forgot to tell you also, we were going
to build a ramp ourselves but our back-
yards are too small, any suggestions?
You hit the nail on the head with your
first sentence. Yes, I have heard these
questions before so I'll make it short,
One: Find a pool: Two: Buy a new stick.
HOMETOWN SKATE BLUES
I live in a small 'hick' town you've proba-
bly never heard of. All the people hate our
crew cause we skate. The cops hate us the
most. Last summer, we made this town's
first quarter pipe. The cops harrassed us
every night for about 4 months, finally we
had to tear it down. Then a few months ago,
a guy skated down Main Street and got a
45 dollar ticket. (The cop said, "It's illegal to
skate in King City") We shined and pretty
soon they gave up on street skaters. But
there's still no vert! I hope you have sug-
gestions to what we should do, cause I ran
out.

Hey Sherm, there's only so much I can
say about your predicament. Keep skat-
ing, keep building ramps. If they tear it
down, build another one somewhere
else. If they hassle you-keep skating. If
it gets too heavy-move. It's kinda hard
in small towns where the cops can get
to know your I.D. on sight. Just keep
moving. Try this, skate something new
everyday whether it be curb, street,
ditch or small ramp.
PERSONAL PROBLEMS
I'm so frustrated right now it's hard to ex-
plain. It's like this. I have this trick, it's a
frontside street plant which I can invert into
certain contortions, that is if my stalls are
long enough. On a good day I can stall from
2-4 seconds. My problem is, for no forsee-
able reason, I seem to lose this trick for
periods of 2 days to a week. Instead of
going right up they seem to torque to far
frontside. What's the problem? Mind
block? What can I do to keep from losing it?
Thanx

Hmm, could be your bio-rhythms are
out of whack, or the moon is full. Jupiter
crossed paths with Saturn a while ago,
maybe that's it. Try skating more, if that
doesn't work try skating less. See a
shrink, you're obviously mentally dis-
turbed.
SOILED AGAIN
I'm 18 and just started skating a local
ramp here in Oak Ridge, back in May of 84.
I've learned to drop in, grind and do rock-n-
rolls so far. My question is, what do you do
to get dirt that has caked on your grip tape
offi?? I'm sure a lot of people have similar
problems. What do you suggest? I've tried
stiff brushes.
Yours truly.
Dirt tape
Oak Ridge, TN
Ah yes, I remember this one. Dirty
tape huh? No problem. Buy new tape.
Seriously, if you've already tried
brushes and water, break down and re-
cover that dirty deck with a new coat.
When grip tape is new it doesn't feel
right, but, when it gets old it doesn't
work. Oh by the way, take off the old
stuff before you apply the new, huh!
