UNDERGROUND
The Nunz played to a packed
house on their triumphant return
show, April 19. There'll be more
shows in the future, as well as a
trip down to LA. Also they are
working in the studio Debora
lyall of Romeo Vold fame has
signed a $150,000, single LP deal
with CBS Records and her single,
"HEARTBEAT," will be out in the
summer. This song was submitted
for consideration on the sound-
track for the now John Travolta
Jamie Lee Curtis movie, but,
turned down in favor of Berlin's
tune. The album, her first recorded
solo project, will be out in the fall.
Chris Isaak, signed a world tour
contract the other day. Meanwhile
the band tours the Northern Ca
fornia spots, before leaving June
5, for their tour, which includes the
US, Europe and Japan. Formerly
Silvertone, Chris Isaak, was
groomed by Warner Brothers, to
become the new male heart-throb
This tactic has succeeded. His
performance style has grown, he
has a shy smile when he talks to
his audience between songs.
Jimmy Wilsey has survived the
transition from Silvertone to
Chris Isaak. Jimmy, you will re-

enger's. The bass player, Rollie
Saunders, is the driving force be-
hind the band. He's most impres
sive. "Blue Hotel," the only song I
remember from the old Silvertone
sets, is incorporated into their new
act. Isaak vocals are strong.
haunting and effective. A tight pro-
fessional quality sounding band
who are off and running. See them
now, while ticket prices are cheap,
and shows intimate because, they
will go far. Comparisons to Elvis
have been made. Stylistically I
agree, but I think Isaak has the in-
telligence to go beyond the com-
parisons and add a new dimension
to that genre of classic stage style.
The album, Silvertone, is out on
Warner Brothers...On the subject
of the Avengers, vocalist Pene-
lope Houston is back in town. She
recently played a dingy Cabaret,
and stylishly paused twenty min
utes between songs NEWS
FROM PHILADELPHIA (And
other assorted areas) All you
Dead Milkmen fans out there take
note: the band is now signed to
Fever records and has an album
due out shortly. Five Story Fall
played at Abe's (minus Bobby,
their regular drummer) with Chuck
ex-McRad Treece on drums. They
were good. Speaking of Chuck,
he's got a tape floating around of
his own stuff that really rips! It's
Sivertongue, Chris isaak and
Silvertone, Jimmy Wilsey.
metallicaly edged, but with some
neat rhythms and even a little re-
ggae touch in the melody at times.
Hopefully this is just the beginning
of things that he'll be putting out
Executive Slacks have a new
album out and they're leaving for
England to record new mate-
rial Hallwise Phily seems to be
keeping afloat-the Camdon hall is
open at last. The first few shows
there had a moderate attendance,
but the upcoming show with the
Dead Kennedys should change
all that. And, of course, Abe's is
still alive and kicking, as is the C.E
Center For those of you who
want to play at Abe's or the C.E.

filling up quickly for the late spring
early summer....By the by on the
off-again on-again side of things.
People in Baltimore have been
having problems putting on their
shows-it seems that somehow
word got to the city that there were
problems with the building where
the shows took place, so the city
came in and said that they couldn't
do anything else until repairs were
made. At that last checking, all the
repairs were made and shows
were ready to roll. The band Re-
ptile House (from Baltimore) have
added a second quitarist to their
line-up. They've now got what one
person called a real loud
sound.". Also from that area, Grey
March have a demo tape that's av-
ailable and it sounds pretty sharp
The Joy Division-style leanings
are still very much present in the
music, but there is also more depth
and a more rocked-edge to
it DC's No Trend will have vinyl
out with Lydia Lunch and plan to
tour shortly...Martin Atkins has
reformed Brian Brain and should
have an EP out called "Fun With

bat Records has worked out a deal
with Metal Blade Records to dis-
tribute selective acts on their
label...so keep your eyes peeled
for Slayer's Hell Awaits,"

VI is finally out (on Metal Blade Re-
cords) and one of the featured
bands on this compilation is none
other than the Obsessed, who
sound G-R-E-A-TI! Plus there's a
lot of others on here who are
equally as good, so go buy this re-
cord and prepare to R-O-C-KI. In
Flushing, NY the hills are alive with
the sound of pig music? Yup, you
got it! Sound of Pig Music offers a
catalogue of interesting cassettes
and bands to listen to, including
some compilation tapos that in-
cludes among others: Savage Re-
public, Theater of Ice, Youth
Hostel, and Dreamhouse on one,
and Algebra Suicide, Beat Hap-
pening, Psyclones and Cross on
another. Any tape can be had in
trade. Questions? Ideas? What-

U.S.A Milwaukee's Hardcore
scene is alive, kicking and heal-
thier than ever. The Under-
ground, The Landing, Cafe Vol-
taire, and Yano's (which is all
ages) are booking hardcore and
alternative music-type bands...As
die Kreuzen's hair gets longer
they are contemplating an offer
from a major independent label.
They'll be touring this summer,
and a new record is expected by
late summer, or fall. Meanwhile
the Crustles who share the top
slot in this city with die Kreuzen,
have thus far eluded vinyl, but re-
leased a tape, Yuk Park, which
they didn't bother to distribute.
They blaze, but they don't care.
Sacred Order who opens for
T.S.O.L. every time they're in the
area is now hard rock core.
They're planning a big move to the
west coast, look out. Other new
bands are N.R.K., who just
finished making a recording. Dis-
dain who are planning on breaking
up, and last but not least, Self
Gratification, who are very metal
and very hot. For you "paisley
heads, there's local mainstay
Plasticland, who have a mindal-
tering record out. And in the Metal
department the reigning King and
Queen are Blacklist and the all
female band the Hunted who
toured briefly with Wendy O. Also
doing it with a twang are DaBo-
deans, and E.IE.I.O. who re-
corded a demo tape with help from
Los Lobos' Steve Berlin. So look
past the Violent Femmes and
keep listening.
