What's that? You say you've sought out
every piece of pavement humanly possible
and still haven't found a suitable skate
spot? My next suggestion would be to
move, but if that can't be arranged, it's time
to look at your hellish predicament from a
new angle. First of all, who said street skat-
ing could only be done in the street? One
thing any good skater knows is that there
are no rules in the particular game he has
chosen to play. The modern day street ska-
ter must adapt in order to survive, or in
other words, ride on or over whatever is av-
ailable. If you're one of those types who
needs an example to follow, a quick flip
through some past issues should give you
an idea. Walls, steps, trashcans, rocks,
animals, picnic benches, rooftops, and yes
even small children become skateable ma-
terfal in the eyes of a resourceful street vet-
eran.
Talk
to be around. Think you can do it? If you've
got any doubts, take the following test to
see if you too, have what it takes to be a
street skater. Good luck and good skating!
1. Street skating is fun?
(a) Yes
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
(b) No
(c) Maybe
(d) Would rather be drowning kittens.
Street skating is done on:
(a) The street
(b) A skateboard
(c) The 1st Sunday of a leap year
(d) One or all of the above.
(Circle One) T or F: Way hard wheels
are as useless for street skating as a
piece of wonder bread.
A good time for street skating is
(a) Any time
(b) Just before Miller time
(c) Nightime
(d) All of the above
Where is this "street skating thing"
done?
(a) Only in government approved areas
(b) A roller disco
(c) The dirt
(d) Wherever you deem necessary
Finally, which of the following is a true
statement? (Circle one)
Lean a scrap of wood against something
and grind off of it or fly over it. Jump off a
wall, or over a wall. Ride up, on, off of, and
over anything and everything you can. Why
not? Other skaters do. Take these few
skaters for example: Jim Gray & Beau
Brown have been known to, in the midst of
heated sessioning, skate up, over, and off
certain large sized boulders with advan-
tageous transitions in the ever-famous mile
square park. Mr. Neil Blender can and will
skate on or over whatever gets in his way.
GSD just skates everything. Period. Street
Scott, Lance, Cab, etc., there are too many
to mention in the space that I have availa-
ble. Anybody can do it, if they really want to.
The trick is, instead of waiting for a suitable "Note: Everything that was just said could
spot to skate, skate whatever you happen be a lie-but it might not be.
(1) Street skating is a good-time thing.
(2) Jim Morrison is cryogenically sealed
in Brunswick, N.Y.
(3) God is merely a communist plot to
take over the world.
(4) No answer, it's a trick question.
