JOB DROP
I'm writing to toll you about a par-
ticular incident that almost cost me
my job. You see, I am a deck hand
on a tug boat for Port Arthur Towing
Company. I ride the boat for 20 days
and I get 10 days off so I don't have
as much time as I want to skate.
When I'm off I practically never get
off my board. Anyway, the last trip I
made I brought my board, and one
nite when I was alone in the galley
(kitchen) I did what I guess you
would call a jump-dinnertable-axde
drop, and some dwid deck hand
seen me and told the captain. The
capt'n bitched me out and put me off
of the boat in Memphis, Tenn. The
company flow me back to Port Ar-
thur and grounde 1 me for 30 days
which was great because I skated
my ass off everyday I was home.
Hopefully I will find a different job
when I get off next time so I can
skate more.
SAD SKATE
Yours truly,
Danny Jice
PA. Tx.
I'm a 15 year old skater from Coral
Gables, Fla. The skate scene here is
really sad. I've heard some rumors
about half pipes, but so far I haven't
seen shit! There's a place called the
wodge, which is a drainage ditch
under a highway, it sucks, but it's
better than nothing. I decided to take
some action and built a small quar-
ter-pipe on my sidewalk, it sucks
too. I don't really use it, it's just sitting
there rotting away.
A friend in my Spanish class
named Rick is always talking about
a killer half-pipe being built on Key
Biscayne, but knowing the Key rats,
they'll tell us "Locals only."
Most of my friends are surlers, I
don't blame them, the waves down
here are really good, at least they're
better than the sidewalks. I used to
be a surfer, but I wised up and be
came a skate punk. Someday the
skating scene will start looking up,
soon I hope

WASH UP
Just a note to say how excellent
the skate scene has gotten in West-
ern Washington!!! A bunch of new,
good skaters have come out of the
woodwork, along with about a dozen
new ramps, including just-com-
pleted Jerry's ramp, which is 16 ft.
wide, double flat platforms, channel,
etc. A few hot area skaters include
Glen, Jerry, Dave, Harold and John.
A bunch of new shops carry skate
equipment, such as PJs, Fallout,
and Gregg's.
The harcore scene over the sum-
mer included some great shows:
The Faction, J.F.A., D.RI, Black
Flag, and the Bat Show
Well, we can only hope that next
summer will be better. Thanx for
being there.

Yknow what! It sux living in a
lame town like this, the only decent
skater within 50 miles is Joe
Johnson (saw him in a demo at
nearby Boulder). Me and some
friends are gettin' very tired of street
skatin on pool boards (our second
quarter pipe died about 11 mos.
ago). We are close to a new quarter
pipe or halfpipe, and are wondering:
do you publish anything with instruc-
tions on pulling off intermediate and
advanced trix. Well, thanx and

BEST DRESSED LIST
I read a letter that you had written
in the January issue. You were say
ing that you were a "Preppy Punk
You also said your reason for being
a preppy punk was because you
didn't want to look like a slob, and
you can't get girls that way. When I
read your letter I got pretty mad (uh
oh, watch out!). Who really cares if
you're a preppy punk. You probably
dress that way 'cause your parents
spanked you when you put your hair
up and wore shredded clothes. But
who am I to make that judgement?
Also, how can you say that the
way someone dresses is ragged. I
think people express themselves
good by the way they dress. And you
also said you dress the best way to
pick up chicks, what do you want?
Some girl that wants to go out with
your clothes? You might have a lot
of chicks but do they really like you
or do they like your penny loafers
and compliment jeans. I guess I
don't know the whole story, but am I
close to it? Keep thrashin' buddy.
Get lots of chicks and keep putting
your hair up and hiding behind cars
when you think you see your mom's
car coming down the street. I
apologize upset you but you
made me mad. (Uh oh, take cover,
get scared.) I guess, it's just like you
said in January, "It's great to see that
people know who they are," I do.
Sincerely yours.

P.S. I bet you have a sweet face
plant. Ha! Ha! Ha!...just kidding!
WRONG!!
I'm writing to tell you about Or
lando, Fla. Somebody wrote in and
said there was no action, well
they're wrong. Everyone I know
skates, my friends and I have a
quarter pipe and are going to build a
20 ft. wide half in my back yard. So
don't let that other guy fool you Or-
lando is thrashin!!

YOUNG YOUNG CHO
My name is Young Cho and I'm 12
years old. I live in Castro Valley,
Califomia and I skate with about 7
other skaters that are all in high
school and I'm only in the 7th grade.
I'm the only 7th grade skater I know
of in Castro Valley, whenever my
friends and I go to a ramp everybody
is older than me and I feel left out
and it really sucks!! Out of all the
Thrasher mags I got I only heard of
one 11 year old skater in Michigan
Now come on there has to be more
than one skater in Castro Valley but
if there is only one skater which I
know there isn't, that won't stop me
from skating. I'll keep skating until I
die. If there are any skaters in Castro
Valley or near Castro Valley that are
my age please let me know. Us
younger ones have to stick together!

PEOPLE MINDS
I skate for one reason, it's fun. I
also listen to hardcore because it's
the most fun music, but I also race
BMX every weekend. I noticed a lot
of bad words about BMX'ers in
Thrasher, it was also put in the same
category as a mindless jock sport.
Now, to mindless jock sport people
skating must seem pretty lame. Bas-
ically what it comes down to is the
people. There are idiot BMX'ers and
other idiot skaters but you can't
judge a sport on a few people.
Have fun above all,

Let's say I get to the point. I'm re-
ally pissed off! I'm sick and tired of all
you "So-called skaters out there,
riping off boards from your fellow
skaters. Hey man, boardz are ex-
pensive, I know that, but don't go
stealing from a skater! I've had 2
boards stolen from me, a Neil Blen-
der and an Allen Losi, each one I
was proud of. I've been out of a
skate for 2 months now, and I'm like
a fish out of water. I am not working
at the moment so I have no money
coming in, now, how am I supposed
to skate or even save up to buy
another one? My friends have also
had their boards ripped off. Hey! To
all you sticky fingers out there, you
better knock it off. You're gonna
leam the hard way, either some ska
ter is gonna catch you and knock the
#10 outta you or some one will
steal your pride and joy. So come
on, don't steal 'em. If you want a
board cheap, ask around; you'll be
surprised that the guy you were
gonna steal that McGill from has 2
boardz and he'll sell you one cheap.
The world of skating can do with-
out the thieves.

WHEN SKATING IS
OUTLAWED ONLY OUTLAWS
HAVE SKATES
The Midwest skate scene is on
the up. Madison (WI) is becoming a
skate town. Downtown is completely
shreddible. More skaters are hitting
the skate scene. But did you know, it
is illegal to skate down State street
(main drag). My skating bud re-
ceived a nice violation of $30.00 just
for pushing down the street. The at-
titude of everyone else is severely
screwed. Need some major change
in this town. We are working on it.
Your street sequentials are hot
Street skate is equal to ramp be-
cause not all of us have access. The
halfpipe is a luxury in this town.

DOMS THE VAL
How do? the old 'zine still tears!
One thing I didn't like: I seen a
couple letters in mail drop that said
S.J. sucks for skating, that dude ain't
a local, so get out. S.J. is the spot for
spots. Stevie Cab just added flat to
his structure; Montague is the spot
for night. Morgan Hill Church pool
can't be skated on Sundays, but the
ditch can. I can hang with 1:00 am.
sessions at the Bosch 7-11 circus
and scurb. Fab's ark will be skatable
again, the best in S.J. 20' wide with
38 from coping to coping that's 20
of flat, tea time. SJ. is a skatepark. "
You think there's locals at Del Mar,
sheet. We even got a couple punk
and heavy metal bands, to keep that
part of the scene jumpin'. So get
your board out of the class show-
case and look behind a building.

BOARDING SCHOOL
I'm a 15 year old skater, I go to an
all boys boarding school in Virginia
called Blue Ridge School.
My first year here I noticed a half
pipe on campus built by a few skat-
ers in 1978. Blue Ridge has a good
skate scene considering it's out in
nowhere.
Now that there's a scene here we
decided to start a skate club. Finally
the club met along with Mr. Souss
(the Headmaster) and decided that if
the skate club could raise money Mr.
Rouss would double it in cash. How
cool can you get? Now we can build
a decent ramp.
If it hadn't been for a scene here!
don't know what I would do.
