Fraternity brothers subsist on ramp. "What's a fakie?," "Yea, I
used to skate..."
Friday Morning 12:00 a.m.-6:00 a.m.
Waves of sorority girls bring food and good company to the fren-
zied skaters. Ron Dotson, The Pillow Man," falls asleep while
doing a fakie. Team bong skates and pays.
Friday 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
Bob Denike, Greg Martinez and Aaron Harrington blaze some
cool early morning lines. Denike craves a McDonald's
cheeseburger.
Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.:
Clint Bittleman, Paul Anderson, Steve Beck, Scott Potter, Eric
Alman, Shaun Anderson and Dave Klein of Central Coast
Surfboards come out of hiding to abuse the ramp for more than
its worth. Crowd is comparable to previous days. Madrid shows
up for another unbelievable performance. Smeltzer continued to
blaze on skates as well as freestyle. Decisions had to be made:
Go to class or blast another air? War or peace? Walk or skate?
Relax or aggress? All the right choices are made. Steve Douglas
gets his picture in the school newspaper.
12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.:
A myriad of skaters approached, conquered and bailed. Physics
department does an analysis on the whole situation and confirms
what they're doing on that thing is quite impossible. Calculators
aren't, bio-skating is. Mark Bergland's time now stands to be over
20 hours. Scott Starky continued to amaze. Jim Fontaine takes a
bad slam and inverts his knee.
6:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. Friday night:
Again pizza joints and sandwich plants flow food. Beau Brown,
Steve Douglas, Bob Smeltzer, Marty Jimenez and myself assault
the town and get flowed wherever we go. Whilst in Bulls Tavern:
Beau Brown sucked down some Heinies; Bob Smeltzer found
out what a Kamikaze was; Steve and Marty are handed a
flashlight and told to "bounce" and check IDs at the door. Wait,
isn't Steve 187 Sessions pumped all night long. Over 200 people
watching. Female population very large. Intoxicating beverages.
Jack Smith's team ripped. Denike became a crowd favorite. Kal
Benuska continued to stimulate the crowd with bone-breaking
moves.
Saturday 12:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.:
Skating continues recklessly into the morning. Rumors of a baby
doll nailed to the coping and chants of "kill the baby" echoed
throughout the morning. Scott Woodworth proves that he can
skate. Scraps of food from past sessions are found and de-
voured. Donations to date: $3200.
6:00 a.m. Saturday morning:
Go home. Done. No more skating. Shrapnel from sessions long
gone is picked up and disposed of.
Saturday night a skate party was thrown in honor of the
Thrashathon. Coors flowed-3 kegs for the uproar and was ac-
companied by Bob Denike's S.LO. band; the Pattersons. The
group belted out some mean tunes and constantly kept the crowd
in an uncontrollable state. Skate cookies were passed around
and engulfed by unsuspecting victims. Several acts of de-
bauchery were reported and committed. Human sacrifice? No,
just some harmless fun. The pillaging went on into wee hours of
the morn. Dave Klein shoots the whole scene.
Through this concentrated effort $3000 was raised for the
American Heart Association and skating was exposed to a once
stagnant environment. Many people were responsible for the
success of this drive. The American Heart Association in the
cooperation with Lamba Chi Alpha would like to extend their ap-
preciation to all of the individuals and organizations involved.
Skate for a healthy heart,
