BULLET DECK WITH THUNDER TRUCKS
AND KRYPTONIC 63.5 CSI
A quick couple of pushes and suddenly the world as we left it be
comes a blur. The skater hits the ugly grey mound of cement and
away from the earth he goes. The bright neon yellow board is the Bul-
let by Santa Cruz. The bright orange and way-fast street wheel is the
new 63.5 CSI from Kryptonics. Those silver things that the wheels are.
mounted on, what are they called? Oh yeah, trucks! The trucks are
Thunder Blasters and they have 9% wide axles to stabilize the ride.
They also turn quicker than many other trucks that we've ridden and
have started production again so availability won't be a problem. One
thing that will help-don't rely on the blue-goo bushings, get some hip
urethane ones of your choosing. This minor adjustment will really
bring to life the character and responsiveness of the trucks. The Bullet
deck has a 16 steep tail (new for '85) with 10° upturned nose and
linear 3 concave made of 5 ply maple. They've also gone to new lami-
nates for stronger plys. The deck worked well and the riders' feet
never slipped their way off the deck. Kind of a "valley of the concave
effect. The wheels are 63.5 mm high and are made of the best street
compound urethane we've ridden. With 80% rebound at 85A on the
durometer, the ride and grip are nothing short of superb and sticky
slides are possible if desired. This was a fun board set up. See the

In the tradition of the highly successful
M.E.S.S. (Mid-Easter-Skateboard Series)
we now bring you the M.A.R.S. (Midwest
Amateur Ramp Series). At least that is
what Bill Miller and the rest of Corhead,
Craig Williams, buddies out in Nebraska
are up to. Bill plans to cut a swath of ramp
jams from Milwaukee, Wis. to Elgin, Illinois
and through Neb land, site of two Midwest
Melees, and on to Topeka and hopefully
over to Minneapolis. Anybody with a big
hot ramp in between these areas should

SKATETECHNOLOGICALLY
SPEAKING
Down at Cal Poly Tech Institute our
resident student skater Bob Denike and
fellow skate frat, Eric Horn, have leaked
word of a new breakthrough in ramp
design. These two skate engineers have
been babbling about speed to thrust ratios
and eliptical transitions, etc., ever since
they stumbled upon the applicable for-
mulas and theories during a school project.
Look for a press conference announcing
further research on the subject any day
now.
On the video front, Bob Pribble has
been spewing about doing a backyard
video 'zine, you know, like a skate rag for
the tube.
TEXAS TWISTERS
Down in the land of big the skating is
progressing right along according to
Newtron (Jeff Newton). Look for a video
from Zorlac coming soon. Down in Lub-
bock, the arm pit of Texas, there are about
15 drained pools ready and waiting for a
crew to come in, clean 'em and skate 'em.
It seems that wherever you find rural
tourist traps that have been bypassed by a
big interstate you're gonna find run down
motels with pools. Such is Lubbock's fate.
Other pool news has a small one hit kidney
down in Houston that is actually cool to
ride. The lady in residence there occasion-
ally burns a smoke, but otherwise gives the
thumbs up for skating, no Jakartas though.
Houstonian John Gibson, by the way,
was given as a Christmas present to some
kid. Seems Tex was contracted by the kid's
mom to show up on Christmas day for a
skate lesson or two and an autograph
session.

Down in San Diego there is usually
something going on and when in the
company of guy's like Owen Neider
somethings can get interesting. Take a
recent excursion to that temple of downhill
perfection, the Concourse parking garage.
Eleven stories of pure slanted, concrete
perfection. Well, as our S.D. bud, Tod
Swank, reports, him and the boyz were
blasting runs and elevating back up to the
top when Owen realized he had a pressing
need of reliet. You know the old, "when you
gotta go, you gotta go." Result: 11 story
bomb drops, #2 style. That Owen!!
