will get you...
Hüsker Dü, the talented wild men
from Minneapolis, have cut-topped
all their records with this one. Being
a fan of the Hüskers since day one,1
can definitely say that this is their
best yet. It's better than Metal Cir-
cus, better than Land Speed Re-
cord, better than Zen Arcade, better
than...ah, hell...
Now that I've got all the con-
gratulatory statements out of the
way, this Lp. is Hüsker Dü refined
and distilled, not unlike fine whiskey,
to a very fine but biting statement.
Fifteen songs full of blazing (not the
cliche "blazing" but actual burn yer
ears off stuff) guitars, anguished
vocals and bashing drums plus
enough intelligence to avoid a mind-
less bash-fest
Power plus acoustics on "Celeb
rated Summer and "Girl Who Lives
On Heaven Hill" are the very best
and the most powerful. Other all-out
thrashers like "Whatcha Drinkin,"
and "If I Told You bring the band
back to the early days of non-stop
jamming with astounding speed.

Skull from New York recently had
the honor of opening up the New
York Times and finding out that their
release was considered one of the
best for 19841 About time that paper
got some sense into their head.
Now, if only they'd pay attention to
all the rest of the bands that deserve
attention...Rat at Rat R, also from
New York, are working on an album.
No word as of yet as to a release
date, but keep your ears open-if
it's anything like their live show it will
definitely be a must-own. Some of
you may be familiar with distribution
systems like the Lost Music Network
in California. Along the lines of that
there's Pollution Control, located in
scenic Cleveland, Ohio. P.C. is a
promotional distribution service to
radio stations and others with a
newsletter and mailing packages. If
you're in a band you may want to
consider sending them something
for a mention-or to be distributed.

Jello Biafra sent me this album,
said to check it out, ya know. Well I
thought it was gonna be wham!
wham! wham, hardcore thrash, or
something. I had a headache, so I
set it aside for a bit. When I did hear
it, it wasn't what I thought it was at
all. It sounded like, the Dead Boys,
Sex Pistols and Los Olvidados
thrown together with a thundering
vengeance. This album is good,
check out the cut, "Boredom is the
reason." A needle guitar band.
