WHAT'S UP IN
WILMINGTON?
The skate scene over here in
Wilmington, N.C. is very hot! We
got a lot of people who can really
shred. We have some pros like
Reggie Barnes, and a bunch of
people who can jam like
#@%. Ben Bumahl is one of
them, he is getting about six feet of
air (backside)
a
We have some killer ramps up
and about six coming up. I have
ramp (halfpipe) that's about six
and a half feet tall, twelve feet
wide and an extension that is
about eight feet tall. I'm going to
be moving soon and plan to have
a ramp that is going to be eight
feet on the high side and seven on
the trick side and sixteen feet wide
with a rollin' canyon and pool cop-
ing on both sides.

WANNA RAMP?
Me and my friends just got started
into skateboarding. There was a
park right near us, but it was torn
down about five months ago. We
can't find any halfpipes or quarter
pipes. Could you send us some in-
struction for a halfpipe, we are in-
terested in building one.
Thanks,

COP TALK
I read the letter sent to you titled
"COOL LAW SAYS LAW UN-
COOL I've had similar experi-
ence when my brother and I were
hitting some hills in a shopping
mall parking lot. A cop flashed his
searchlight on us and called me
over. He said that he thought our
boards were nice, but he didn't
want to see us get hurt, so he told
us to reserve our skating tenden-
cies until we reached a bike path
near there. He explained that a
few days earlier he had to pick a
guy off of his hood when the skater
was doing the same thing we
were. I also wanted to tell you
about a cop I consider "uncool." A
friend of mine was in downtown
when a cop walked up to him with
a skateboard and told my friend he
could have it, and obviously didn't
want to do any paperwork on it. No
one just leaves a board like that
lying around.
I think your magazine is great
and I will continue reading it until I
take that last hill into oblivion.

SATURDAY, HIGH NOON
I'm writing in regards to this let
ter written in the October '84
issue. Apparently two guys,
Chope and Larry say that a lot of
kids who buy boards can't skate
and only do it to act cool. Think
about it, you gotta have a board to
learn how to skate. They then
went on to say that they're the real
skaters of Waldwick. Well look
around you. The skate scene in
Ridgewood, Wyckoff, and Midland
Park is extremely large and still
growing. Over the past year we
built three halfpipes and found an
empty pool. So if you want to skate
some real vert show up at
Ridgewood Skate Shop some
Saturday or call me.

TO WHOM
THIS MAY CONCERN:
All this B.S. about music fads, re-
ally tums me off! If you skate, it
doesn't matter what music you listen
to. We all have something in com-
mon, instead of thrashing on your
music rival, thrash in pools, if you
can't take your differences out there,
then they're not worth setting at all

Now you're on the right track, skates and puts a lot of work to
boys, if you want to skate vert these wards it! I read your issue that was
days, build it yourself Chock put out in August '84, about Debbie
THRASHER back issues for ramp Kivay who lives in Martinez, I don't

THANKYOUTH
I am writing to tell you what a great
magazine you put out every month. I
am glad to see that someone is pub
licizing the sport. Where I live the
skating scene is starting to pick up
There are a lot of ramps being built,
and kids are skating on the streets
more and more. I feel this is to be
credited to your magazine. A few of
the shops around here started sell
ing THRASHER and that is when I
noticed a lot more people skating
There are still some things holding
it back. Most of the ramps that get
built have to be taken down within a
matter of weeks. The county officials
come out and say they are to tear
them down because they are dis-
turbing people. My friends and I had
our ramp burnt down by an old man.
The older people around here are so
against having the youth of our com-
munity on skateboards.
I recently attended a show at the
Olympic Auditorium. There were a
lot of people wearing THRASHER
shirts and the bands were actually
doing some songs about skate
boarding. You have a great maga-
zine. Keep up the good work!

I'm a girl writing from the skate
city of Indianapolis, Ind. You may
question that, but we've got one of
the hottest ramps around. It is
called the "Love Ramp." The ramp
is located in the backyard of rad
skater Jeff Kendall's aunt and
uncle's house. They were cool
enough to let him construct such a
thing, but knowing the talent all the
Indy skaters have, how could they
refuse?
Since the ramp has been up
nearly five months now (taking the
place of "Roxbury," the ramp lo-
cated in Chip Jones' backyard) it
has drawn quite a crowd. This
summer when the Faction went on
tour, one of their spots was Indy,
and yes the "Cab" did skate the
Love Ramp. Talk about hot? It
was rad
Indiana may be a lame state but
our skaters have Del Mar and
Kona in their minds. Believe me
Thrash, our skaters rip and I just
wanted to say I'm proud of them.
Keep skatin' and Thrasher don't
stop putting out this mag. It's
great!
With love to our skaters

P.S. Don't forget Indianapolis
skates too. Tony Hawk rips! Hi
guys at LC
Oops! We thought Jeff Kendall's
ramps was in Ohio. Oh well, we've
been hearing about those rad
seshes going down out there.

SNOT RAG
Since everyone else is getting
into your mag with their problems,
I thought I might as well cry on
your shoulder too. Oh boo hoo, I
hurt my leg in a motorcycle acci-
dent and now I can't skate, but that
doesn't matter because my
gromets are all squished out and
my dock has chipped paint all over
it.
Plus my grip tape is dirty and
doesn't grip. To make matters
worse I just found a no bust pool
and winter is almost here. So
everybody feel sorry for me.

YEAH, WRITE!
I've just started college at LA Tech
in Ruston. I'm from Mobile, AL
where the skate scene is close to
dead except for Greg Bloodsworth
and 1. The nearby Ocean Springs.
MS Boys are hot. Anyway I was
wondering if you could print this so
maybe someone in this area
(Shreveport, Ruston, Monroe) could
get into contact with me. I need to
skate. I heard from Dana Buck that
there are some good ramps in Mon-
roe.
