SKATE VISIONS
"A SKATEROCK ADVENTURE
VIDEO APPROX. 40 Min.
It says somewhere on the cover
that this is a "Skate-Rock Adven
ture. This does not mean that it is, in
any way, to be confused with the
original "Skate Rock venture, term
or deal coined in Thrasher a few
years back, or two Thrasher audio
releases, one in cassette, and one in
album form. I only assume that the
term is used here to merely
generalize, and explain the fact that
the video's soundtrack is done by
Agent Orange, who play good rock
O.K., take some of the best riders
from Team Sims, and Team Vision,
a string of various skate locales,
Brad Dorfman's Cad, girls-who-
can't-act standing around in bikinis (1
guess you call 'em props), the mag
netism of Gator Rogowski and I
guess you've got a video.
With the exception of a few slow,
somewhat unnecessary seg-
ments-ike Gator driving down the
road eating a Jumbo Jack, some
break-dancing stuff, more footage of
skators driving in cars-this video is
a good vehicle for some good skat
ing. Funny thing is, by the time this
thing was actually released, the
state of the art had reached a level
that is quite possibly double what it
is depicted here on tape.
Nonetheless, there's some excel
lent footage of Lester Kasai, Jeff
Phillips, Gator and Joe Johnson, rip-
ping up ramps in various locales,
even at Eagle Rock. Then there's
some inspiring footage at Sadlands,
Del Mar and the Pipeline, which
50
even features a few glimpses of
some other Pro's in action. Like,
Caballero, Hosoi, Hawk, Steadham
and McGill. The end of the video,
climaxes with Agent Orange actually
playing in the shallow end of the
combi-pool at the Pipeline, with
Gator and Lester skating around
them.
If you are a skater, and you want
to see how it's really done, you
should watch this video. It's not a
movie though: It's a video of skating.

BUTTHOLE SURFERS
Another Man's Sac
Touch & Go
Enter the forbidden zone of the
Butthole Surfers where madness
erupts into insanity and everything
works in between. This 3rd Butthole
masterpiece hits at their finest effort
to equal their own spaced out minds
with lunatic steps and stand still
dances. Each melody is different
than the last, from spaced out guitar
to odd vocal effects, as this Texan
outfit drive acid crazed music into
the minds of an unsuspecting public,
eerie, psyched out feedback pro-
longs with a tomming drum beat,
only to change pace constantly, if
you put your finger on the Butthole,
you only plug it up, but alloo othose
daring fans know, as they slowly
forget about Me and all become
junior Butthole Surfers. Can this
epidemic be stopped? Check into
this vinyl and find out why not.
Scream and scream again, will it
ever stop?" as the tube closes over.

To Whom It May Consume
R&B Records
A unique mixture of strange
haunting ideas with psychedelic
type chords, creepy in approach, but
not of a horror or post death punk
genre. 9353 hail from Washington
D.C., and on this, their first 12", push
forth eight tunes of suspenseful de-
sire, each with its own appeal and
oddness. Eerie guitar-work laces in
with bizarre vocal tracks as a
monotonous drum beat pursues the
two, still adding a harmonious
sound, tight melodies, weird but not
off the beaten track, with charismatic
effects, evident in "Idustry, Fa-
mous Last Words," and "East of
Sudan. 9353 have a driving distinc-
tion, enough to enchant you into
these
pleasuresome hythms.
should go far. Reminds me of
Seventh Wave or early Split Endz.
LOUDER FASTER SHORTER
Video 17 min. 20 sec.
Early San Francisco Punk at its
best. Footage from a 1978 benefit
held at the Mabuhay Gardens for
some striking coal miners in Ken-
tucky. You get treated to some rare
glimpses of the fore-fathers of the
music you listen to today. Stuff by
UXA, the Avengers, the Dils, the
Mutants, and my favorite the Sleep-
ers, complete with Ricky Williams
singing with a trickle of blood down
the side of his face. Excellent, color-
ful, the best documentary from this
time period.
"Louder Faster Shorter captures
the power, energy, and color of a
sound that spawned a generation of
imitators.

SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES
VIDEO APPROX. 60 Min.
This is some live footage of Sioux-
sie and The Banshees at the Royal
Albert Hall sometime back in 1963
It's nothing extraordinary, other than
the absolute captivating persona of
Siouxsie. Very straight ahead con
cert stuff with some killer faves such
as, Israel," "Sin in My Heart,"
"Spellbound" and a grand finale of

On Wrestler Records
This is a new sound coming from
Tim Kerr and Chris Gates of the Big
Boys. Definite rock 'n roll roots are
apparent from the very first song.
"One Step Closer," followed with a
good cover version of "Seventh Son
which was originally penned by W.
Dixon. Ex-Big Boys roadie, Rocka-
by Mike, adds a little country flavor
with his crooning Cramp-ish styled
vocals. Tim Kerr twangs and slides
around on the geo-tar, most likely
with a giant, ear-to-ear, shit-eating
grin. A nice, full sound is achieved
by an additional guitarist Bill Ander-
son. I can't forget to mention the
bone crushing, full-brass resound-
ing by Chris Gates and drums by Jim
Kanan. A good mix by Spot. "The
man" and here you have a very de-
cent premiere ip from these boys
from Texas. Oh, yeah, another good
cover they do is Richard Hell's
"Blank Generation."
