            There's so much truth,
What do you see as being truth?
The lyrics. About how you grow
up, and things happen to you. Most
of their songs are kinda based on
that,
You mean, not just another
schlock love-song?
More than just looking at a girl
and wanting to fuck saying "Baby
love you You know what I'm
saying They were, they were loud.
What do you like about skating?
You earn quality when you skate.
Earn quality?
In yourself. You know, you like,
what you do. You keep skating
because you keep getting higher
feelings, and then you try to go
higher. Then you fail. And I don't
mean fall off your skateboard.
Fall, in your mind?
Yeah, 'cause you...it sucks, right
now. Lance is this way too. You
skate, and you want to do something
so much. You know how it feels, and
you could make it feel so much
better, and yet you can't do it. And
there you go, you just get pissed off
and you end up throwing your board
around
Like doing what?
Like doing tricks, and you've
done the trick so much, and you
know it could be so much better
than it is. Take handplants; you can
do handplants like a lot of people
and you can just get the trick over
with. Get it out of your line of tricks,
say, "There, I did a handplant Or.
you can do a handplant, and try to
get so much out of handplant
That's why you stall out longer
these days?
Yeah, that's why we go higher. I
don't want to just do tricks. I think
skating is more mental than physi
cal. You could probably teach a
monkey how to skale. He'd probably
skate pretty good. But a monkey is
not going to know what to do after
he does it. Well don't know,
maybe monkeys can think. Maybe
they know how it feels to "push it
All I'm saying is, ballet is not all
that good to watch
That's all you can say? End of
Interview?
No. I like people who demand
stuff out of their body.
What do you think of football? 1
think, to a certain extent, it's
stupid. More and more each
season.
It's a piece of shit, is as I know.
It captivates so many minds for
several extended periods of time,
during certain parts of the year.
You could overrun the country in
an invasion during the Super
Bowl.
There's this piece of glass in front
of you just projecting images, and
there's just fat men with beer-nuts
sittin' around goin', "Uhhh. Fuck
yah, Fuck yah." And they all bet,
then they get bummed, then they
drink more.
Then they want to beat their
wives.
What about baseball?
Some guys are good. I think
Steve Garvey is a nothing. He
tries to...never mind.
When was the last time you felt
that anything was really worth
anything?
You know, that's a good, good,
good, good...good question. Good
The last time...the time I did a
fast-plant about face-high
Did you invent fast plants?
I don't think so. I'm gonna be
serious now, Duane Petors was
rad, ok.? He was probably one of
the best skaters of his time. He
knew when to get out
He hurt his knee.
I don't know. Don't think he'd still
be skating. He saw badhood
coming out of skating, and he said,
"shine. The guy did "last plants"
But he didn't do them high. He did
em off-coping, and his foot went off
and back on, I would watch him do
that at Big O. and I'd just go, "This
guy is seriously good. Duane's an
Anarchist
What do you see around you,
besides skating?
I see people trying to impress
other people day in and day out.
Who doesn't? I think, well... "feel
ings, since everything revolves
around "feelings, that's probably
the only thing that's worth anything.
You know, how you feel about
something.
I know, that's what I'm trying to
ask you. How you feel about
things.
Depends on what's going on.
What do you feel strongly about?
I feel strongly about urges.
Impulsen to do things. If you want to
do something, do it.
Like what. What impulses have
you had that you just followed
through on?
Walking forward I don't know,
want to go to hell?
Why, to see what it was like?
it's not even true. Ike the second
world. You're world. It seems like it's
not worth it to tell anybody, anything.
People are gonna read this inter-
view, and they'll poke fun at it. Yeah,
they poke fun. And then about five
or six years from now they'll look at
it and go, "Gosh. I guess that was a
pretty good thing you said right
there. He's an allright guy." O.K,
that brings us to another thing, the
JAM, OR. we'll mention the JAM
again. Paul Weller, in the song
Away from the Numbers," he says,
till your life is over, they start to
moon, how they never had the
chance to mean good." What do you
think? In other words, what he's
saying, is that people are just all out
for themselves. You live, and they
acknowledge your existence when
you're there, by saying "hi" and
bye" and when you die, they say,
gosh, I guess ho was a pretty good
Q. Contrary, as with polar opinion, you can never
edgewise WHY IS THAT
A. Wel, sure but even then y
s gonna get walked on by who knows wh
guy. Too bad he never got to see
how good of a guy I was."
So what I want to get at in, why
everybody has to be tougher than
the next guy? Why?
Personal satisfaction
How they feel about themselves
Can we corrupt minds with those
words?
No. How can you corrupt minds
by telling them the truth? You
corrupt minds by telling them
des.
This is fun
What do you do? You said you
worked in a gas-sation for 15
hours.
No, I never worked in a gas-sta
tonjunt stopped in and got a
jacket collect jackets sometimes
get one these jacket trips, I gotta get
jackets. I've got alot of jackets.
I notice they all have the same
Yeah, I like the knife cut. Q.K
worked at the San Pan when I was
about fifteen, a cantonese cuisine,
was a bus boy...strictly morbid It
was a bad wrap. We used to make
rice balls and have rice ball fights in-
the banquet room OK, I go on
from there, worked at the Big O
You see, skating is my life. I will
skate...I will skate unfil something
wrong comes my way.
So everything that comes your
way is good?
I knew you'd catch me. Well, I
worked there, and I work for G&S. I
Just skate. Uh, what was talking
about before now?
What you do?
Oh yeah, I'm in a band now. It's
acoustic, with Clarence, Lester
Kasai, heard of 'em? I play rhythm
basically. It's called "Social-Tea
Jeff Grosso skated to our first song
at the Del Mar contest it was good
He didn't get rated so hot. Jeft
Grosso looks like a moth
What does it feel like in the midst
of competition.
You know that's funny, 'cause I'm
the worst skater alive to date.
Eknow.
I mean, it's sad. I guess I gotta
play the game, you know. I got to
just make tricks at a height that!
know I can make them. That way 1
can make the cut. Then when I
make the cut can make my tricks a
Ittle better. I guess people have
strategies
To accomplish something, you
got to figure out what you got to
do, in order to do that.
Sometimes I make that cut
But how do you feel when you're
skating?
Ifeel like: each trick I do has to be
better than the next one. And i do
a good trick, that means I have to do
that much better. Then I fall off. All
I'm saying is that my tricks are not
mild.
What's your favorite trick?
I've been doing a lot of trontside
handplants. Alot of 'om. 1 like
Fast-plants have anybody in
the country, a Fast-plant contest
Describe a Fast-plant."

foot off and putting it back on before
you come into the bowl. If your foot
