Whoa boy! Heads were pounding at the
Huntington Beach World Open after two
successive nights raging at the H.B. Inn,
directly across from the contest site.
Highlights
-Somebody must have yelled "fire"
because a lot of extinguishers were in use
al one time or another.
-Mondo and TA provided a little floor
show in the C-tail lounge before they were
politely asked to leave.
Chinese food finding expeditions in and
around HB with Billy Ruff and Bryce
Kanights at the controls and getting two
wheel edgers all the way, Restaurant
terrorist of the month: Tommy Guerrero.
-Speaking of auto action, just as the Pro
streetstyle was getting under way a Chevy
blazer careened off of another vehicle on
the P.C. Highway, right at the contest site,
rolled out into the grass median and edged
back in on two wheels. All while KT called
the play by play over the loudspeakers."
Of all the deserving winners at the
N.S.A.H.BW.O. no one has persisted
longer than rippin' Ray Meyer (1st, spon-
sored freestyle), Ray, 23, lives in S.F. is a
founding member of the Curb Dogs bike
skate demo team, has been skating ever
since anyone can remember, can be found
styling in Golden Gate Park on any Sunday
and to top it off, in his spare time works 9-5
servicing Wang computers Rip it Ray!
Baldy pipeline uncovered again
WITH A REBEL...OUCH!
Rumor No. 586 that Mt. Baldy has been
skated again (you know that famous
pipeline) this time it was triple threat Jay
Alabamy, Jonny Ray and Steve Olson
who rodded out to the 15 foot cylinder on
Turkey day. It seems that Jaybamy suf
fered a snapped wrist on a harsh bail and
while sitting out a recovery Olsie shot his
board for a full spiral and nailed Jay in the
tailbone.
LATEST LICKS
-Six skateboards of the same origin
broke in half at Huntington Beach, can you
name this manufacturer.
-Mofo finally cleaned and organized his
paste-up desk
-Things are still a bit primitive here at
Thrasher Hdqrts. Lately, when the temper-
ature dips down into the 40's (Brrr!) we've
taken to burning Thrasher back issues to
keep warm. So, get 'em while they're hot,
but not charred.
-If you haven't seen the People mag with
a full bleed, two page spread featuring
Chris Cook layed back at HP ramp in S.F.
you missed out. It's in the December 31
issue, with Baby Fae on the cover. Be
careful though, the article is gnarly.
-Micro says that Annandale ramp is in
danger and may be history by the time you
read this.

You know that guy
with the panel truck wid
da' word Thrasher written
on day side of it? Yeah,
original ramp rancher Tommy
Kay, to his friends or TK to everybody else,
held a Thanksgiving jam at the ranch
Entry fee was a six pack and that went to
the judges. Good ole boy Buck Smith
from Jacksonville, FL, look first in spon
sored while the fugitive," Blaize Consta-
ble took 1st unsponsored. Damn if TK
himself didn't nab second. Tommy is
pushing GRASS now...oh, that's the
Georgia Ramp Amateur Skate Sories.
Look for it come springtime.
LA. AND ELSEWHERE
Lowboy, our LA. eye was cruising low
and slow in the biways of East LA when
he found himself involved in a four car
collision. Rumors that he was trying the
infamous rock n' roll car slide on the divider
barrier are unfounded at this time. Else-
where...ST. Elsewhere to be exact, that's
the show in which our actor friend Stacy
Peralta has scored a bit part as a drug
patient. Most of his on camera time is
spent in a coma, but hey, you gotta start
someplace.
QUOTABLE QUOTES
"Walking is not good-Fjej (Jeff Hedges)
"I ran over a bird once...killed it."
Just one of the shocking revelations
from the Nell Blender tapes, due out next
month.
BURLY IN BERLIN
After years of fighting for such a thing,
West Berlin skaters are now waiting for a
33 foot wide half pipe which feeds into a
bowl at one end, another small snake run
leading into a bowl and two quarter pipes.
All this to be finished by Spring time and
constructed of fibercrete. That comes from
Mike Ernst of the Westside."
Elsewhere in W. Germany, Claus
Grabke (the best in Europe according to
many) reports it is getting a bit winterish,
but, they have found an indoor ramp site
and are under construction, sessioning
also continues at the Muenster Skate Park
and "Titus Cup '84" is now history.
HOT FLASHES
Topeka, Kansas (close enough to
Lawrence) now numbers among the "more
than a few cities that have skaters plead-
ing with their Park and Rec. depts, to build
ramps at local playgrounds. Kansian
correspondent, Jim Patterson also fills us
in on the scene around those parts since
the Metro was burned and torn down. Jim
decided to build Topeka's first halfpipe, a
16' wide, 12' flat model, there is a 12 foot
wide in Lawrence that deserves mention.
and others are being planned.
RIPPING BACK
Back in action is Florida vet, Mark Lake,
after grinding out 20 hr. work weeks in Fort
Lauderdale. Lake is bound and determine
to restructure his portable demo ramp on
Merritt Island as a stationary.
ILLINOISE
Tory Boettcher's new half pipe near
Elgin features pool cope and a unique pool
like bend in one wall. All day and night
sessions reported coming out of those
parts.

GRINDERS FOR LUNCH
"Because we are human we eat," says
John Geary, so him and the crew from
Ventnor, Jersey frequent the local eateries
and luncheonettes around town. Between
hangin' at the one local halfpipe and
questing for a skarf the boys put in plenty
of hot to go street sessions
