BETTYHANAS
We have a difference of opinion
with the lame skate Betty (Sept. 84
issue). Having a boyfriend who's a
skater is the most happening thing
that could ever happen to a girl. We
think you're pretty crabby. Why
should a guy give up skating to hang
out with a bitch like you who doesn't
understand the time and effort in-
volved in skating?
In reference to your letter, if you're
tired of playing "second fiddle to a
dumb piece of wood and fiberglass
with wheels," wise up, honey, and
realize you wouldn't be playing "sec-
ond fiddle" if you weren't such a
lousy scam. Learn to appreciate the
sport and put up with their priority,
because they have to put up with
your bitchin'.

NO HICKS ON STICKS
Ok, I'm fed up!! Everyone in the
country shits on West Virginia!! And
now, of all people, Thrasher is shit-
ting on W.V. I just got your Oct. 84
issue, to find out you call us "Hillbil-
lies"!!! I think you hit the wrong part
of West Virginia on your "Skaters
With A Cause article. I live in Vie-
nna, W.V., outside of Parkersburg.
Parkersburg has the biggest high
school in the state. Everyday I see
punks, preps, druggies, and scums.
But, not a day goes by when I don't
see a new guy with a stick! And no,
no one, I see are hillbillies! Your mag
is great but this shit on West Virginia
has got to stop!!

A MOUTHFUL
I think everybody should get to-
gether and build the perfect park in
California with a million little runs
that have a lot of hips and coping
and channels and a perfect keyhole
and left and right hand kidneys and a
perfect halfpipe that goes from shal-
low end to deep end with coping and
channels and a square pool and a
triangle pool and an egg pool and a
shell pool and a bunch of different
size full pipes and a downhill banked
slalom and a big snake and a perfect
street skate area with curbs,
benches, poles, trash cans, tables,
etc. Sounds perfectly possible to
me. Oh well, I'm starting to get sick,
I think I'll go skate.

MESSIVE
Fellow skatedogs, I take pen in
hand for the first time (ever). Satur
day was the M.E.S.S. 5. It was the
hottest.
Monty Nolder, Schmitt, Doug
Walker, the Atlanta crew was there.
Tenn., North Carolina, and the home
state of South Carolina were well
represented. It was sponsored and
unsponsored. Sorry don't remember
who won what. Joe the ramp owner
really knew how to build. 8% transi-
tion to 1 foot vert. 3% foot wide rollin.
Pool coping bolted down on one
side, metal on the other, oh yeah 32
ft. wide. Sticker throw, boards,
trucks, rails. Everything was mas-
sive. Britt did a great job.
Everyone freaks out about skate
harassment. Forget it all the gov't
types keep building concrete jungles
for us to shred. Everybody listens to
different music, so what, just skate.
I'm 27, been skating since I was ten,
no music back then just shred.

WELL READ
First off I wanna say what a great
magazine you guys are putting out.
it's a true high energy mag! It got me
started up again after laying dor-
mant for years. The skate scene
here in Lancaster is pretty good, we
have halfpipes (under construction
mostly), ditches and a host of pools.
Speaking of pools, my friends and I
found this great pool and started rip-
ping it about every day during the
summer. But one day I shredded my
foot on a major fall from the top (10
ft) so I was unable to skate for about
3-4 weeks. I was totally bummed.
All my friends were skating and
progressing every day, but I was
stuck at home. So I started reading
my old Thrashers over again and
began to pull out of my depressant
state. I cut out pictures and stuck
them on the wall and was soon so
hyped up from the mags that I think i
my foot healed faster from all the
energy. About a week later I was
back out and skating better than
ever. So keep up the good work and
thanx alot.

COMES TO P.S. Could you please print this for
injured skaters out there who are
bummed. Get back involved and
read the articles, it works!
Hay, looks like we've missed out
on a lot of action! or is that Action
Now?, that mag sucked. But how
could we forget that boarder
magazine came from Dana Point,
even though both mags died, we
didn't. In fact, there's even more of
us now. Total into thrashing and
Thrasher we have about 6 halfpipes
and a couple of pools in this area
and a handful of hotties like Steve
Sterns, (T.A.). Tony Astorga, Lance
Lions & Bro's. and all looking for a
new pool, pipe, or places to thrash.
Any info? (will exchange)

NO SECOND FIDDLE
Dear REDICKULOUS Furious
Female,
Who the hell said any female had
to play second fiddle to a skate???
We females do as we please, so if
you're playing second fiddle to a rip-
pin' skate, then that's your fault, vic-
ious axe choppin' Betty. If you can't
see, to share your boyfriend's desire
to Skate, then second fiddle you are
the one who will regret it for the rest
of your life.
I've been with my Skatin' Sweet-
heart for five years and I heavily
enjoy watching him and his friends
rip on their Rad Skateboards. So
wise up #$%! Betty and enjoy the

I am a full-fledged skate "betford"
(Well, that's what they call me) and I
am writing in the interest of all the
other girlfriends of mad, rad skaters.
Remember those hot, scorching
days hanging in the ninety degree
weather while you watched your
lover slam his body down against a
ramp? Wondering when this on-
going session would ever end, and if
he'd be able to still take you to dinner

timore and skate as often as possi
ble while I am attending college. The
summer of 84 was one to re-
member. The skate scene here is so
hot I don't think it will be able to snow
here this winter. There are many
ramps in the Baltimore-D.C. area
and a few abandoned parks, such
as Earth Wave in Edgewood, Land-
sdowne, and Crofton. The OC Bowl
is still open and it hosts a newly built
halfpipe that is really ripping. The
hottest place to skate is the
Chesapeake ramp, which hosted a
ramp Jam with Steve Caballero and
the Faction. There were over 200
spectators and skaters from
Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ocean
were hippies and they used to shred City. The skaters sessioned the
P.S. Carlsbad skate park is still

about 4 or 5 years and is still thrash-
able.

BOARD LOVE
I'm a 15 year old skater from
Evergreen, Colorado. Just sitting
here in bed waiting for the snow to
stop so I can go out and peel the
plastic off my ramp, so I can thrash
once again. I mean who's going to
stop skatin' just because of a little
snow. Here in Colorado the skate
scene has jumped incredibly.
Halfpipes have been sprouting up
everywhere. Just in the last 3
months, 3 ramps and 1 quarter pipe
have been built, and that's just in the
small town of Evergreen. Lately the
skaters have been falling in love with
their boards and ramps more than
the girls. I mean who ever thought a
girl could get jealous over a piece of
wood with wheels on it??????

WE SKATE TOO

Hey, lately I've seen lots of letters
from Virginia. That's great because
there are many good skaters and
Virginia overall has a great scene.
The thing is that most of the letters
are from the beach. That's where
most of the better skaters are and
they have a great scene there. But I
would just like to say that
Portsmouth and Chesapeake are
happening too. Even though we
aren't as good as the skaters in Va.
Beach, we would like to be recog-
nized. This letter is for Jaye, Lee,
Troy, Nathan, Ben, Scott, Mike,
John, Kevin, Jimmy, John K, Pete,
Cliff and our Bat mite (8 years old).

You figured you can't beat it so
join it. You'll do almost anything to
keep your sanity when he tells you,
"Hey Babe, like sorry, but the picnic
with the rents will have to be missed,
cause like, there's this crucial comp
in Philly on Sat-day!" You do every
thing in your power not to throw him
against the wall and burn his board,
since this is the third Saturday in a
row your plans have been
scratched
On the other hand, you love him
so you have to deal with his twisted
mind. You are pro-skate. Skate this,
skate that. You wear team sweat-
shirts, Thrasher T-shirts, Vans...
You're brainwashed to Skate or
Don't, or worse yet, Skate or Die!
The board is everywhere with
you. It's great; if you didn't like it
you'd leave. But don't forget to stand
up for your rights. Don't let him bring
the board to bed.

I am writing to you because I am
MAD at the skate scene today, I live
in Short Hills, NJ and it is hard to tell
a skater from a fruit who buys a
board just to look cool. And another
thing that makes me mad is when
skaters buy ramp boards and skate
the street, I mean it is cool if there is
no way to build a ramp, but you can
usually get the wood somehow or
another. But even if you can't get
wood, you can always use some-
body else's ramp. So I have a mes-
sage for all you bogus skaters, GO
