Jello Biafra and ecstatic fan perform at the rock show during the
Democratic Convention
The music world is spinning at
such a sporadic rate, it is sometimes
hard to keep abreast. News, that is
definitely not new news, but just in
case you were wondering why you
weren't receiving your Trouser
Press magazine lately, is because
(as we stated a few months ago) it
folded. But condolences go to all of
you poor rock fans" who had some
time left on your subscriptions be-
cause now, to offset the balance, you
receive Record, a stale excuse for
a rock mag, which is mothered by
Rolling Stone (ever wonder who
was the clever individual to come up
with that name?), the paper rag that
gives you the "hip- poop" on people
ike Jack Nicholson, Boy George,
Michael Jackson (remember him?)
and Charles Manson, Record is
good if you want to read about music
written in a college book report for-
mat. BORING. Rumors are that it's
teletype B.S. and direct press re-
lease quotes anyway Definitely one-
way crap house material. It makes
it in the stall, but it doesn't make it
back out.
Well, we survived the Democratio
Convention (at least this phase of
its influence), but not without ex-
periencing a lot of its repercussions
The punkers, skinheads, hippies
and wannabees made quite a show-
ing during the week-long event, with
various demonstrations that in-
cluded war chest tours" and "die-
ins." The war chest tours were full-
scale demonstrations, consisting
mostly of punks parading or march-
ing (or whatever you call their move-
ments) all over San Francisco's bus-
iness district and staging the die-ins
in front of corporations who repor-
tedly financially support or are some-
how severely involved in our govern-
ment's foreign interventions in South
America. The die-ins consisted of
protesters imitating nuclear or chem-
ical slow-death, eventually writhing
on the ground pretending to be dead,
It was impressive. Anyway, riot cops
came, bashed people around, one
skinhead pulled a full roundhouse
and cold-cocked one officer, but a
bunch more officers ganged up and
beat him. Then, on the final day of
the whole convention ordeal, when
the big speeches were made and
Geraldine Ferraro made political
history, there was a giant Rock
Against Reagan show in the desig
nated demonstrators area, a park-
ing lot across the street from Mos-
cone Center, where the convention
was being held. The show consisted
of several bands, such as Reagan
Youth, M.D.C., The Dicks, and the
Dead Kennedys. In between bands
were comedians (male and female),
various other support acts, and red-
faced political speech givers, who
seem to always end up screaming
their point across rather than intelli-
gently striking their views into the
crowds' minds. (Otherwise it seems
that the crowds either can't under-
stand what they're screaming or just
get all fired up about shouted info.)
Practically the whole THRASHER
crew was observed backstage,
mingling, carousing and trying to be-
long Mofo was seen having quite a
confidential conversation with local
funny girl, KFRC traffic reporter and
basketball star Jane Dornacker,
and was later seen being accosted
by the police several times over his
misuse of lips and lungs.
Early in the show it was an-
nounced that one of the war chest
tours" was just forcibly dispersed on
Market Street with several arrests
So after the show almost everyone
marched down to the Hall of Justice
to shut it down, Well the H.OJ. is
the police department's big fort, and
you just can't do that that easily. So
the obvious happened, and loads of
people got bashed and |ՈՐ-
rested. Agent Orange news:

92635... News from Philadelphia
(and other assorted areas): you'd
figure by late summer things would
start slowing down. After all, people
are going on vacation, hanging out,
or just plain lazy from the heal and
humidity. That's what you'd figure,
right? Wrong. What's been happen-
ing is every bit as busy as it's always
been, with bands coming and bands
going and projects being
started... People who want to hear
what's happening in the Philly scene
but can't afford the cost of an album
can now take heart: a compilation
cassette tape is in the words from
Mutant Baby Cassettes. Tenta-
tively set at this time to be featured
are Initial Attack, Butcher
Brothers, Decontrol, Sadistic
Exploits, 5 Story Fall, Y-DI, FO.D.,
Social Slugs, Little Gentlemen
and Sunshine State (with a few
more to be added). All tracks that
appear on this tape will be previously
unreleased tracks. Accompanying
the tape will be a booklet containing
information on the bands and their
material. Distribution is scheduled
for mid-August, and the price for a
tape and booklet is only $4.00 plus
75c postage. For information and/or
orders contact Mutant Baby Cas-
settes, 110 Beverly Drive, Kennett
Square, PA 19348 Murgatroyd
Productions is organizing a "net-
work" of hook-ups to help bands in-
terested in playing in or outside of
town. Too many times a band will
want to play in the city but won't know
who to contact or may only know of
a business agent who may charge
the band fees and then charge
exhorbitant ticket prices to cover
them, eliminating a lot of people who
would want to come to a show but
might not be able to afford it. A net-
work would provide stability and de-
pendability through people who
work and are familiar with each
other, which means shows would be
satisfactory to all involved at all
levels. If you would like to participate
or have information to share, contact

The Dead Milkmen have
been really hot their last few shows.
People are saying nothing but great
things about them. Right now they
are recording 4-track for an X-15 tape
to be released, but in the meantime
if you want a sample of what they're
like you can purchase a 16-song cas-
sette tape for $3.00 (includes post-
age). It's a good quality cassette and
well worth the price! Contact PO.

Yeah, after months of deliberation,
setbacks and crude, under the table
deals, Skate Rock Vol. II is finally
being pressed. The title of this skate
rockumentary is "Blazing Wheels
and Barking Trucks," featuring 13
bands and 19 songs. The final list of
bands reads Tales of Terror, J.F.A.,
The Faction, Ancestors: Gods of
Sound, TS.O.L, Anvil Chorus,
Free Beer, Los Olvidados, McRad,
Borscht, Drunk Injuns, Kingpins
and the Big Boys. By the time you
read this, it should just be starting
to filter out into the world. Until next
month, skate hard and rock and roll!!
