drove out of sight. Fine.Britt Parrott, one of
the organizers of the M.E.S.S. contests
was sessioning on, along with a hardcore
"Alva believer" and a variable of other stinky
and sweaty skateboarders. When the car
came flying back in the other direction
again, occupants screaming, it partially
rolled up across the curb and onto the
neighbor's lawn then back onto the street
and on down the road. It seemed like such
a quiet neighborhood. Finally the car came
back, in reverse, zig-zagging spastically in
the street, came to a halt across the street,
and parked.
The occupants casually got out "the one
good door that worked," came and joined
the session watching the skate session.
Soon McGill, Goodrich, Roskopp and
Gator had to leave to catch their flights out.
I still had another day. What about Gator,
you ask. He was passed out in the back
seat of a rental car, sick. He musta ate
something he shouldn't have. At least he
had a plan. Doug Walker was blazing on
the ramp now, along with Bat Mite, Joe
Bowers, and Squid Dickman.
They were seriously late for their flights,
and every time McGill would try to get into
the car, Goodrich would drive away. Now
that's the first time I've ever seen McGill
get pissed off.
The session tapered off to practically no-
thing and a secret calling urged the need
for a dork session. I tested the idea on Bat
Mite, Bowers and Walker. They fell for it.
So we went to a steam factory, goofed
around in a good dork way, then went to a
nuclear museum. I found out that the
atomic bomb dropped on Japan was de-
veloped in Oak Ridge and they say
Oak Ridge was a city behind a fence.
Check points in and out of the town.
"People died here," Bowers said.
"Mowed down with bullets."
We did some good dorking in the
museum. One couple thought we were one
of the exhibits. So this is the origin of the
bomb"? I felt so helpless, knowing that this
is the area that fostered the worst of this
world's nightmares, the tool of fear, the new
fire in the hands of modern day cavemen.
"Soldier, I command you to push that but-
"Ugh."
Boom!
Mike Harrington, hip-grinding the Outlaw Ramp.
Doug Walker, native powerhouse.
