grinding beneath him and nearly landed on
him. In third place, the Sanderson brothers
put together a rather polished routine and
flowed on difficult timed maneuvers. Also
competing in this event were Jeff Phillips
and Craig Johnson, who put on a display of
rad tactics that included simultaneous
inverts and other aggressive tricks. The
most hectic pair to compete in the doubles
were none other than Chris Cook and
Dave Duncan. With no set routine, these
guys rolled out and in, grinded with power,
and came to many close helmet-brushing
passes by each other. It seemed as if
these two were headed for disaster. They
stayed on and proved to everyone how this
event could be fun and dangerous at the
same time.
The doubles event was over and my
knees were aching from constantly
kneeling and snapping photos. I packed up
my gear and grabbed a Coke at the snack
bar to soothe my thirst. Various people
were leaving and sharing parting words
with each other as I strolled over to the car.
Gnit had a crowd of skaters requesting
various items from him as I approached.
Soon I began throwing handfuls of stickers
and buttons into the many outstretched
hands of these needy and greedy individu-
als. When all of our freebies had vanished,
we packed our bags in the trunk and left for
a bite to eat. Upon leaving the parking lot,
Gnit felt it necessary to test the parking
brake of our car while we were in full
motion. This produced a rather loud
screech and caused many of those in the
parking lot to turn their heads in amaze-
ment. We were all starving, so we went to
a real cool bar/restaurant joint that featured
surf flicks as we ate. Next we were off to
the Alba residence where we met up with
Steve, Micke, and a few other types. Steve
had previously informed Gnit of a banked
pool nearby that was skateable for the last
time since it was to be dozed the next day.

We drove over to this place, skated,
spectated, took photos and left in a hurry
due to the time factor. I craved to stay
longer since this place ripped so heavily
and it was such a blast to skate. (More on
this at a later date.)
After a lengthy ride, we arrived at the
airport, dropped off the rental car, and
rested our souls at the bar in the terminal
to kill some time. We downed our cocktails
while watching the rock/soul goddess Tina
Turner swivel her hips on some trendy New
Wave show (Solid Gold). That woman sure
has some moves for her age and looks
ripping as well. We finished our drinks and
dragged our luggage with us to the
boarding gate.
Once I was on the plane, I tilted my seat
back, closed my eyes, and let my body rest
from this weekend's chain of events. It had
been a good one.
