IGOR'S RECORD COLLECTION
My record collection is filled with
compilation albums. You know, col-
lections of different bands on one re-
lease. But there are still more compl
lations out there that I haven't even
seen. Comps are an excellent way
to check several bands at once. My
local record store overflows with
'em, so I check them out. So here's a
couple of choice comps. The latest
and the greatest is...
Repo Man
San Andreas Records
The soundtrack to Repo Man fea-
tures, singing the title song. Black
Flag's TV Party, Iggy Pop, two
Circle Jerks' songs, and a heap of
the Plugz's songs. Plus Suicidal
Tendencies and Fear. It's a good
set of tunes. Some of them old,
some new. I've heard the movie got
blasted by the critics so I'll hang on
to the record and look at the picture
since it might not be playing at a
theater near me soon.
Hell Comes to Your House
Bemisbrain
This is the first I've heard of 45
Grave. Great way to start this record
with Evil blasting out from all sides.
This comp. has a good Christian
Death song called "Dogs." The So-
cial Distortion songs are historical.
Two of my favorite bands have been
included on this record, 100 Flowers
and Red Cross. Great to play on
Halloween or any time of the year.
Hell Comes To Your House-
Part II
Bemisbrain Records
P.O. Box 90901
Long Beach, CA 90809-0901
A sequel to the first Hell..., Part II
takes on somewhat of a down-home
twang to it. Featuring eight bands,
The Joneses, Mau Maus, Cam-
bridge Apostles, Blood on the
Saddle, Tex and the Horseheads,
Minutemen, Screamin' Sirens and
Lotus Lame and the Lame
Flames.
I still think that The Joneses
sound a lot like The Heartbreakers,
and that all the people who like 'em
haven't been around long enough to'
know any better. But that's only two
songs on the records.
It seems that sex runs a sporadic
vein all through this record. For in-
stance, the Mau Maus' "Sex Girls in
Uniform, Lotus Lame and the
Lame Flames' "Bad Sex," and I
know for a fact that it's all that The
Screamin' Sirens have on their
minds. Especially with "Your good
girl's gonna go bad."
But despite all of the twang, this
album is pretty darn good, and ac-
centuates your collection, if the reg-
ulation hardcore is a little bit over
your head.

Punk and Disorderly -
The Final Solution
Anagram Records, London
All you spikeheads out there know
about this stuff already, but for those
of you who don't, here it is. A suc-
cession of compilation records
featuring spikehead bands. Spike-
head, meaning the creatures with
the mohawks and spiked out vari-
ations. Bands such
The
Exploited, G.B.H., Peter and the
Test Tube Babies, U.K. Decay,
Blitz, U.K. Subs, Chron Gen, Vice
Squad, The Expelled, etc., etc.
Even some American bands, name-
ly Channel 3 and Dead Kennedys.
Each album contains 16 cuts of
raw, nerve-grinding type music. The
first album is about the best, as far
as I'm concerned. More variety with
great cuts by Vice Squad, Peter
and the Test Tube Babies, Red
Alert, Blitz, DeMob, and G.B.H.'s
"Race Against Time."
Punk and Disorderly-Further
Charges is pretty electric, for the
most part, but lacks the variety of the
first LP. There are some exceptional
cuts, for example, G.B.H.'s "Sick
Boy and Channel 3's "I've Got a
Gun" blaze on many of my home-
made miscellaneous cassettes.
Punk and Disorderly Ill-The
Final Solution stands at about the
same level. It seems that the stan
dard de rigeur for some of these
bands is the same in the producing
department, though some good per-
formances are put in by The Ex-
pelled, U.K. Subs, Angelic Up-
starts, The Exploited, The Vio-
lators and especially a song by The
Ejected called "Have You Got 10p?"
Kind of reminds me of the little punk
Notes From The
kiddies who come up asking for UNDERGROUND
spare change at gigs. Who are they
trying to kid?
All in all, it's a good example that
this here "punk rock" stuff is cate-
gorizable. Even though the "punk
people" claim to not be categorized,
it's evident that this music is def
initely limited to certain specifics. It
would be hard to put these bands up
against Minor Threat, The Big
Boys, D.O.A., etc., and say there is
no difference, no category. Not to
say these albums are bad. I enjoy
them thoroughly.
Bullshit Detector Two-
Crass Records c/o Rough Trade
137 Blenheim
Crescent, London Wil
This came out some time last
year, and it's been until now that I
could find an excuse to review it. A
two-record set, B.S. Detector Two
features upwards of 30 bands, who
have submitted demo tapes, etc., to
the people at Crass over the previ-
ous year. In producing this release,
Crass made no effort to smooth out
their sound, so they were used just
as they'd been received. Some cuts
are so garaged out, they're hard to
distinguish as music, but I get the
feeling that that isn't important. The
songs, actually, weren't selected for
what they sounded like, but for what
they said. True, some of the songs
sound like they were recorded in the
toilet at home, or in someone's bed-
room or kitchen.
Here's a sample of some of the
bands' names: Waiting for Bardott,
Omega Tribe, Boffo, XS, Toxik
Ephex, Molitov Cocktail, Youth in
Asia, Stegz, Anthrax, Pseudo
Sadists, on and on.
The thoughts, topical content of all
the songs, are related along the
lines of severe anti-war type stuff,
anti-nuclear death, anti-system,
anti-religion, anti-police brutality.
anti-testing on animals, and others
along these veins. Granted it doesn't
sound very positive on the surface,
but it's a good example of very raw
material from other parts of the
world that you wouldn't normally
hear. It's worth it, but a fair warning:
it takes a few listenings to get used

to the Yaa Girls and tell them to

from the touring Toxic Reasons
said. It seems that after their Skate
Rock write-up, they've incurred big
responses all across the states.
They say that there's blazing
skate scenes going down in
Omaha, Kansas City, El Paso,
etc. They also said that they'd
been spotting lots of skaters nation-
wide... Watch out! Next month is an
interview with that great band from
England, The Subhumans. Catch a
few of their impressions on this
country and maybe even find out
why they asked the question, "Why,
if you don't mind us asking, are we
being interviewed by a skateboard
magazine?"
