JUMP OR DIE
I think your mag is really rad. I
know a couple guys that are really
great skaters. They're building an
eight foot high halfpipe which isn't
bad. There are some good pools
around here.
I rode my board down this street
that was very steep. There wäre
only two ways to stop, wipe out or
jump into the dry canal at the end of
the street. I decided to skate over to
the side of the street and jump off my
board into some old lady's yard. My
neck hurts a little, besides that I'm
fine.
Til I write again. Skate or Die.

er's dictionary.
LIVE AND LEARN
Recently a friend and I went out at
2:00 A.M. and stole about 2 dozen
2x4's (for a ramp) well everything
was cool except the kid that I ripped
them off with confessed to the cops.
So in a month I go to court. My point
is if you steal wood, do it by yourself
'cause then no one get nailed be-
cause someone else goofed. I find
the best way to get wood is to go
down to Grossman's lumber and
buythe fuggin' wood myself. Take it
from someone who knows; don't rip
off wood because it won't be worth it
if ya get nailed and last but not least,
don't trust lame skaters who might
get a little nervous and cry to
mommy.

Sounds like J. may have a point
there. Hey! you can't skate in jail.

MAX AIR
I'm from a small town in Arizona
where true hard-core skaters are
few and far in between but I just got
transplanted (thanks to the USAF) to
Maryland. So far I have met about
four times the number of skaters in
the service than I did in Arizona and
I have skated PHX, Tucson, and all
points north (including Las Vegas).
The other day I found out that I'm
going to be stationed in some place
called Georgia. I've heard that there
are some radical skaters down
south and that there are still some
skate parks open. Is this true? If so,
this is one airman that is going to be
flyin' high.

METAL SNAPBACK
Listen metalheads Take another
bong hit before you read this, you'll
need it...my head is out of my ass
and yours needs to be kicked.
Heavy metal is sheet metal; it sucks
and always will. Are you still listen-
ing? How can you like transvestites
with hair down to their spandex
asses that sing in that shrill "Help
me! I've just been castrated" voices,
while all the other lovers in the band
solo until the drugs wear off. This
came from your lame mouth, "Rock
is a group of highly skilled musicians
playing music that fits together and
performs a good sound," where did
you get that definition, from the Par-
tridge family? If you want skill and
finesse listen to Jazz, you
LAM.F.'s. Hardcore has re-cap-
tured the gut-level energy that rock
'n roll was about in the first place.
You metalheads are just too rough!
Oh, with all that standing while you
bang your heads, someone could
get hurt. Yeah, too much energy for
me! Don't start crying there is a solu-
tion though, let someone "De-prog-
ram" you. Have yourself strapped
through your thick 'metalheads at
down, head-shaved, and send
100 watts a combination of the Mis-
fits, Husker Du, DOA, Minor Threat,
and Black Flag for approximately 24
h ours, and you'll be on your way to
hardcore salvation. If the preceding
doesn't work just kill yourself 'cause
you're truly lost.

HOT SKATE ROCK
Just thought I'd drop you guys a
note to tell you that the mag is hot!!
really dig your section on Skaterock!
I've found a lot of new hardcore
bands that are really stoked to skate
tol The skate scene here is pretty
hot, we found a really hot ditch, and
there is also an old skatepark closel
But of course the street scene is
great! Our only problem is lack of
skaters and the over population of
Bmx Fags! But we won't let them
worry us; everytime we see them we
chase them away so we can ses-
sion! There are also some cool quar-
ter pipes that we skate, just a note to
all the dudes around Maryland:
Come on in to Frederick Skatepark
for some heavy sessioning; Keep up
the Skaterock scene.

METALCORE RESPONSE
Now, I'm writing to set a whole
bunch of readers straight. Now think
a little bit you guys, where is the
skating spirit?!!! It doesn't matter
what kind of music you listen to, just
as long as you skate!
P.S. Keep on skating!
Frank Schweizer

We've gotten more response on the
Motal vs. Punk thing than anything
we've ever printed before. We think
it's great! Now we're starting to hear
from reggae heads and rockabillists
also. Next month we may cover a lit-
to jazz or even some skate sym-
phony or how about some opera
thrash. Frank from San Jose's letter
probably sums it up the best, but
keep those cards and letters com-
ing. T-ed.
SKATESONG
I'm sitting here in Jerseyland,
U.S.A. hating snow and ice which
somehow chose my halfpipe for a
resting place. I was listening to
MDC's "Dead Cops" and decided
that more skate oriented lyrics were
in order. Here's what I came up with.
Skaters (chorus)
Cruise down the street
outlaws on concrete
skating to the drum
they do it all for fun
(chorus)
They're different and they're few
they're on the ramps too
aggression is the sport
get bio and contort
(chorus)
Skater, skater on the street
cops on my tail
board under my feet
all the conformists asking me why
I'm not a normal American guy.
(chorus)
What makes America so straight
and me so bent?
Call this the sport of the free
say it's terrain of the brave
pushin' tricks to extremes
no egos here, no esteem
(chorus)
I know it isn't complete, but it gets
the point across.
Skate hard.

SKATE OFFENSIVE
Lately, since I moved, I've been
taking more and more shit from the
people in my neighborhood-they
seem to think that I ride a skate and
bleach my hair just to offend them. I
ask these people if they can skate
and they always say, "I can spend
my time doing better things." Right,
like smoking pot or dropping acid.
I'm 14 and I've been skating for five
years, mainly street skating, but I'm
trying to talk my parents into letting
me build a halfpipe. My favorite
bands are The Mau-Maus, Mad So-
ciety, Nig Heist, Sin 34, and Bonnie
Hayes with the Wild combo. Skate
or Don't-that's simple enough.

ABNORMAL
Skating is rad as ever in Illinois.
But the problem is snow and, de-
struction men. We have a "skate
club" called the "Skate Punx" (to me
anyone who skates is a skate punk).
We have attempted to skate the
downtown areas but it just doesn't
excite us. As I said in the beginning.
Illinois is gnarly, but only in some
parts of the state. The capitol of
Springfield rocks and has the best
skate band I've heard. Our town is
such a conservative place we've
changed the name from Blooming-
ton-Normal to Boringtown-abnormal.
We'd love to just take off to Spring-
field for a week, and even though it is
just two hours away, we just don't
have the frogskins for the gas. Uncle
Wiggly, Circle Jerks, DK's Sims and
Thrasher all take the cake.
Rock on,

STICH'S POOL SITCH
The snow up here in the north has
finally melted off the street and
curbs so I'm starting to skate again.
Thanks for keeping me stoked all
winter with the pictures in your mag-
My favorite was the last October's
vertical sequentials. I snapped a roll
of my friends and I snurfing (can't af
ford snowboards; who can?) which I
planned to send in, but I sort of
screwed up half the negatives. The
ones that came out were lame.
Hopefully I will get you some pics
this summer of us up here skating.
There is a pool here at our Indian re-
servation which never gets filled due
to it being uncompleted. It seems
the government has a program
where they give the Indians half of
something and the Indians are sup-
posed to complete the job. They
never do. All that needs to be
done with the pool is to have the ce-
ment poured around the edges and
a water filter hooked up. This will be
the fourth Summer we'll ride in it.

Check the snowboard coverage this
month and get geared for next
year. Meanwhile skate like there's
no tomorrow. T-ed.
SKATE BUDS
First off I would like you to say
hello to Nick in Arizona. The Boston
skate scene is dead for the time
being (snow, Dick). I and my buds
are snowboarding to pass the time
but it is not like skating. Your first of
the year issue was good. I wish one
of your foto men would come up and
snag some fo's to prove the scene is
alive and well. The Budda Heads (a
large skate clan up here) are hoping
to see you soon.

SKATING AND SKANKING
I'm writing this letter to tell all the
skaters who quit skating to pick their
boards back up and don't be lame.
When I skate I listen to SKA groups
like Madness, The Specials, and
The English Beat, hardcore is rad
music too because the beat is so
powerful. The skate scene here in
Inglewood is lame but the numbers
of skaters is picking up with posers. I
have a few serious skater friends
(John "rippen Williams, Lester,
Shane and Craig) we mostly street
skate and freestyle. We are planning
on building a ramp this summer.
Don't be shame; skate or be lame!

I'm a 15 year old skater from Vir-
ginia Beach, VA. I've been skating
vert for a little over a year now. I've a
12 ft. wide half-pipe with a low side of
7 ft. and a high side of 12 ft. We have
many skaters in V.B. that shred
heavily!! There's been three back-
yard ramp jams at a killer half-pipe
which is owned by John Fedula.
Wel, just thought I'd let you know
that the skate scene over there in
V.B. is alive and well!!
