            MEEGAS Con MOFO
Sebastiani
Skarfing
Material
By Chef Boy Am-i-hungry
Here's a recipe I learned from Mofo, to
whom it was handed down from his ances-
tors. This meal is a quick and easy dish that
has the potential of feeding a whole squad
of hungry young skaters. The basic ingre-
dients are:
Fresh corn tortillas, (torts')
(do not substitute)
Cooking oil, or lard (the oil is better)
Salt
Bunch of eggs
Minced garlic
Plus alternative additions: small can of
tomatoe sauce, bunch of fresh mush-
rooms, beef, etc.
Serving for one
1) Heat six to ten capfuls of oil (or a big
spoonful of lard) in frying pan.
2) Tear up about four tortillas into a size
of fifty-cent pieces and chuck into pan. Stir
fry 'til they become slightly crisp. Sprinkle
garlic and stir in.
THE REAL THING?
Skaters, like all other athletes, lose water
while they are out sweating in the hot sum-
mer sun. This, of course, causes thirst, and
the most common treatment for thirst is a
cold soda pop, bought from a vending ma-
chine. These machines (billions of them)
sell drinks high in sugar and caffeine (ex-
cept for the diet ones, which are a little bet-
ter, but not much). As one soft drink official
put it, "Ten minutes after you have had a
soft drink you're thirsty again, making you
another potential customer; we've then got
you hooked."
The average 16 oz. soft drink contains
8-9 teaspoons of sugar. If you drank one of

3) Add two eggs and scramble ingre-
dients. Add salt to taste.
4) After the eggs are cooked, you can
either stop there and eat it real fast, or you
can add any number of tasty extras. A little
tomatoe sauce and some chile sauce
makes for a nice spicy meal, or meat or
some muchrooms or whatever. The pos-
sibilities are endless. To feed more people,
just tear up more torts,' and use more
eggs. The torts' are usually under fifty
cents a dozen and eggs are pretty cheap.
Every household should already have
garlic.
CRUNCHERS FOR LUNCH
A killer snack food that you can try
is celery and peanut butter. Remember
these a day, in a year that's over 3,000 tea-
spoons of sugar, and this figure doesn't in-
clude the rest of your fast food diet. I've
heard skaters say sugar increases their
energy-that's all part of the myth. The
truth is that after you drink sugar you do re-
ceive a slight burst of energy, but this is
quickly followed by a decrease in energy
and enthusiasm. These are not good side
effects for someone serious about skating.
If you've ever read the label on a can of
soda pop (most of you haven't) and if you
understood what it said (most of you
wouldn't), you would find refined sugar
listed 3-4 times on the same product under
that? Mom used to shove it in your face and
go, "Here, have a celery and peanut but-
ter." It was always good but you never
thought of it yourself. Well, it's time you
learned how to prepare it on your own.
Wash up a large stalk of celery and chop off
the slag on either end. Get out the peanut
butter (creamy or chunk style, makes no
dif) and with a knife slather that protein rich
paste right down into that green halfpipe
channel. Nothin' to it.
NECTAR OF THE GODS
Here's a thirst quencher that's guaran-
teed. Next time you stop for a pop at the
local stand reach for a fifth of orange juice
instead. Along with the OJ grab onto a
quad of Perrier from France. (Any bottled
water will do, but Perrier lacks the salt con-
tent that most waters have.) What you do is
make kind of a 50/50 skater's cocktail be-
tween the two beverages, either on ice or
just mix it right in the bottle. The perfect
blend.
different names. Did you ever wonder how
they get soft drinks such funny colors like
green or purple or red? Do you think the
multinational corporations care what they
put in the food they sell us? I say no they
don't!
Next time you're shredding the ramp and
dying of thirst, trying drinking water, fruit
juice or herb tea (de-caff). In my opinion
these clean drinks are the best choice for a
thirsty skater. Because what you put in de-
termines how you put out.
