SANTA BARBARA SKATE SCENE
The skate scene in Santa Barbara has
been slow due to lack of skaters. But us
hard cores have stuck with it. We are the
only ones that matter so who cares. The
only legal vertical in Santa Barbara is my
ramp. The ramp is small, 16 ft tall, 8 ft wide,
12ft flat, but very rad. It lies wedged in the
side of my suburban hut. The ramp is
maybe six months old and just recently
masonited. Besides th ramp Santa
Barbara skate spots are the Tea Bowl, the
Bayou (San Jose Creek), Queen
Anne's, Golf & Fun Skatepark' (closed
due to ignorance), the 'Flybowl and the
Jeff Croteau backyard backside, Santa Barbara

The skate scene here in Longview,
Texas is hot. Everyone's skating unreal.
Especially Tommy Koesel. He got 1st. in
unsponsored amateur at Kona. Now he is
getting the recognition he deserves. Our
ramp at Formby's is the best ever.

We, Paul Smeets, Jos Lemmens, Guy
and Peter Wijshot, are the only skaters
from a few hundred in Maasmechelen
(Belgium). A year ago we built a Hollywood
type ramp.
We moved our ramp from an old cinema
to a factory. Sometimes we receive skaters
from Antwerpen and Louvain La Neuve.

Thanx lots for printing my letter and
picture. I've gotten letters from Texas,
North Carolina, Massachusetts, and the
skaters in Casper. Finding other skaters in
Wyo. was really cool and I had a great
time. The Casper skaters were hot and so
was the ramp. although I'm into H.C.
heavily and they weren't, it was really neat
'cause the only thing that matters with
skating is skating, not music or clothes,

now defunct "Beach front ditch, all these
spots are ditches and the like except for
Golf & Fun, which is illegal and difficult to
skate now due to cement slabs in the
bowls.
The only true skaters (every day on the
vert) are myself, John Dettman, and Fred
Conrad. Other honorable mentions are
Marc Hollander and the Berg. We skate
'cuz we don't care about others who don't.

I'm a Hot Italian skateboarder from
Rome. I and my skateboarder friends went
to Genova last month, two good ramps
stay in Genova, and my friend Marco
Contati (from Genova) is a very hot
verticalman
The gnarly skateboarder who is in the
photo, that's me, after only five days of
ramping in my life (in Rome there aren't
ramps). I've skated for three years in the
streets of Rome.

The population of California should be
careful as the northmen invade. We are
shredding wood. Our ramp has gone
through twelve movings and we hope, the
last. These pictures are old, as in the
meaning of long ago, but we're still
shredding.
