sport/art. The performance level was at all
times superb. Unknowns, hot amateurs
and the pros all exchanged licks, lines and
information. Over the days friendships
were born, moves were pioneered and the
sport/art as a whole was definitely im-
proved because of it. Since this event was
a jam session stating matters of final,,
placements are an impossibility since
there literally were none. All riders present
agreed to function under this format and,
once again the general consensus was
that an extended expression session was
a highly enjoyable manner to skate.
Instead of the usual prize money, break-
down, rumor has it that the events
organizer paid all the riders equally. As a
courtesy to the readers, Thrasher will now
briefly divulge the average opinion gained
by questioning both the audience and the
participants.
Tex Gibson as usual was up to the task
at hand. His unique style was much
appreciated and those who witnessed his
aforementioned singing debut were
amazed at Gibson's mastery of strange
cultural skills.
Christian Hosoi was an early crowd
favorite. Typically Christ blazed in and out
of the torture zone flirting with disaster. His
floating airs caused one anynymous
entrant to wonder if Hosol's height was a
result of his ultralight clothing attire.
Unfortunately, a well launched semi-gay
twist yielded a radical spill. In short order
R
Christian was wisked to a hospital session Lance
which revealed a displaced arm/shoulder
fracture.
McGill came to compete, pure and
simple. His runs were completely orches
trated and flawlessly executed. Amazingly
Mike was able to consistently keep up this
attack. His Andrecht plants off the channel
edge were gutsy and inimitable. Had this
been a conventional contest many felt
McGill would have won. But since it wasn't
such a deliniation was pointless. Like all
present McGill's goal was fun and having
seen a few of his social antics I'm sure he
succeeded.
Then there was Rob Roscopp, his size
and strength moves would have structur-
ally devastated a lesser constructed ramp.
He ate lots of food, excelled on power
based moves and decimated gallons of
some ungodly strawberry drink concoction
at a dinner party George Powell threw after
the proceedings. The midwesterners were
particularly keen to observe Rob at work
and their desires were amply satisfied.

Mike Alba showed the wealth of experi-
ence he has gained through years of
intense skate activity; his tactical approach
was loose, he skated for enjoyment and
pushed the limit nonchalantly. Malba
carried a load of school books along with
him on the Midwest trek. He even opened
them and was often observed doing
homework, although the highly repeated
tale that Malba skated with quiz answers
written on his arm so that he could study
while he skated was completely erroneous.
William Ruff, another student/athlete
was clearly on a roll. Ruffabilly performed
a variety of his weird aerials, and generally

made friends and influenced people. One
he couldn't coordinate with was an

the interstate, not buying Billy's assertion.
that he was operating under the expres-
sion session mode and thus not liable to
judgment, he was given a ticket for
speeding. Thusly Mr. Ruff became the only
official loser at the unjudged event.
Caballero arrived late and within
minutes was skating it up with the best of
'em. He quietly carved, flew, clowned and
slid his way into the crowd's heart, one
devastating hand plant caused what
appeared to many to be a broken nose.
Steve merely shook it off and went back to
his elite aggro attack.
Texasman Craig Johnson has no peer in
size and very few can match his intense
skating and aggro attack of vertical terrain.
Dan Wilkes? One of the heroes from the
"Lone Star State" had an integrated
approach which alternated strength and
finesse maneuvers. Definitely a major
talent on the move. Many of those present
consider Dan highly underrated and a
