ONE GNARLY CREW
I'm writing from Baltimore, Mary
land, and the skate scene is real
lame. But thanks to you mag it's
picking up. There aren't any serious
skaters except our crew. There are
these geek preps that WALK around
with their skates acting like surfers
and try to impress. Do you have
these types on the West Coast? Our
crew doesn't care though, we just
finished the halfpipe in my backyard.
Midnight raids on construction sites
are great!! We also caught Black
Flag's act downtown, they are way
hot!! I got to talk to Henry an he graf-
fittied my skate! The Salba interview
was great. THRASHER rips!

MASSIVELY ALIVE
Thanks for the boost in skating. I
think your magazine is rad. It's ac-
tion-packed and always up to date in
the ultimate sport. I've been reading
your magazine for a long time and
I've seen a lot of good.
I wanted to say that where I live,
skating is in heavy action. Our local
skateboard shop is selling boards
and equipment massively. We dis-
covered a highy skateable pool in
our valley and it's pretty rad. Burt
Lamar has been there shredding as
usual. Your magazine keeps skate-
boarding alive. Your mag is totally in
there. Keep up the good work.
Your truly.

We also managed to catch Bert in
flight at a local Valley ramp. T-ed.
EAST COAST RAVE
My name is Andy Brown. Skating
around here is really getting hot! All
the bike shops and surf shops are
getting into it. There are some pretty
rad places around here too! A
closed skatepark which we shred
pretty heavily, and a totally gnarly
halfpipe and at N.C. State Univer-
sity, there are some bad acid drop
If there is anybody else that
knows about some hot places or
want to skate just call.
Also on the East Coast beaches
all the surf shops are getting in some
hot sticks. And all around, parks are
reopening and becoming more
popular!
LETTER THREAT
Andy Brown
Raleigh, NC
My name is Bill Geraghty and I am
13 years old. I'm writing to tell you
what is happening here in Naples. I
have a quarterpipe down the street
from where I live and me and my
friends skate it a lot. Also I do a lot of
street skating. There are about
seven quarterpipes and one or two
halfpipes in Naples. Me and my
friends are planning on making a kil
ler halfpipe. We will send you some
pics of the ramp when we finish
building it. Until next time.
Adios from Bill Geraghty.
Naples, FL
P.S. If you don't print this letter, I will
quit skating forever, or maybe com-
mit suicide by acid-dropping off my
roof.
HERE WE COME
(to the tune of The Monkees)
Here we come
skatin' down the street
gettin' the funniest looks from
everyone we meet
HEY! HEY! We're the skaterz
they keep sayin' we're knockin'
'em down
but we're too busy thrashin'
to throw anyone around.
Just tryin' to have a good time
we're the number one thing around
so you better get ready
'cuz we're goin' to thrash your town.

GET FUNKY, GET LOOSE
I read you all crave about the so-
called "punk" music. O.K, I can get
down to some of the music. For
example, the Blowguns or perhaps
the Pile Drivers. But listening to just
that music makes me sick
Why don't you instead discover
the best music there is? It's called
The funk." Jazz-funk, soul funk, it
doesn't matter, it's all danceable.
skateable, listenable. A couple of
groups for you who are interested
Level 42, Second Image, Earth,
Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang.
LO.T.W., Imagination, Prince. Rick
James, etc.
So follow my piece of advice and
you will be a better skater, person,
dancer, lover, whatever you want.
I myself live in a town called Hilton
on the East Coast. The skatin' scene
here is pretty dry, but me and some
other dudes do streetskatin', bank
skatin, ramp skatin' (I can do hand-
plants).
My current set-up is: Alva board,
Tracker full trucks, Powell cubicles
and grip tape.
Funk is the music, funk is the lifes
tyle. Be funky! Be happy! Enjoy
skateboarding.

NEVER GROW UP
The March issue was the best. I
can't wait for the next Skate Rock
Way to stand up over freestyle, Doc.
It's not boarding (not that I can do
any of the tricks), but it's only a
phase.
Anyway, I loved the contest cov-
erage, and photograffitti, that "whole
bow is unbelievable beyond skate
terms. Skating is dead in my im-
mediate area besides my quarter-
pipe though I'm reasonably close to
"Cherry Lane," but I don't drive.
Where did you get a hold of the
"Rotten. (John Lydon?) These
hardcore guys should know their
roots. The interview was great too.
Keep the good coverage of music
up. In Ohio, hardcore is rare, so I am
heavy metal/hardcore. The only
good concert was D.O.A. which 1
missed. I'm from California for 12
years, and when I went back I had
just missed BLACK FLAG, bum rap.
THRASHER will endure because
we never grow up. It's the way of the
BOARD.
Great work

NEW SKATE PUPS
Okay, I think your sticker button
deal is the greatest in the world. I'm
definitely takin' advantage. Your
mag is the only literature I own,
being the only SKATE mag in the
world.
I just want you guys to know that
the P-Cola (Pensacola) area is be-
gining to see the light. Ramps (shitty
ones, but nevertheless) are popping
up all over. It's a new generation too!
Young kids that see us 18-22-year-
old skater vets getting layback airs
in a 4-foot ditch are wanting to follow
in our "skate-wheel-tracks." It's
great. Most of 'em are picking up

awful fast so it won't be long. It was
getting bad for a while, totally under-
ground, with one ramp left in the
woods of Pace, Florida (9' fish-hook,
mine, we shred it).
You have a great mag. Don't
change it. Don't ever let anyone tell
you there's too much punk. If people
don't understand the relationship of
Hardcore with skating, they have
probably never left the comfort of
their own bedroom. The world's real
people, c'mon...

SKATE LIKE ME
Hey, all you skaters of this human
race, I would say not even about 1%
of the human race can just go out on
the street and find a curb and re-
lease energy like us skaters but
that's their fault. We know we're on a
different level of intelligence than
everyone else in this world. Like
when we see a slant or transitions
we like to create an atmosphere, ex-
press ourselves by motion. I also get
stoked reading letters that skaters
from all over this world have sent in
To just know that there's skaters all
over just like me that stay on a differ-
ent level of intelligence. I got just one
last thing to say. Have a nice day, No
War, No KKK, No Fascist U.S.A
A dedicated skate delinquent to
society.
