KIT'N BE SKATIN
Dear Rick:
ASK THE DOCTOR
I am a female and I would like to learn
how to skateboard. But where do I go? Do
you know of anyone that could teach me? I
know about boards etc.. But what do you
think is the best for someone who has
never been on a board?
I read your section in THRASHER! Ev
erything you write about has helped me a
lot. A lot of unanswered questions have
been answered.
Thanks a lot. and, by the way. I think
you're a babe!

Hey, Kit, did you ever think of starting
on the sidewalk in front of your house?
Actually you've already started skating.
Just having the urge to get on board is a
step in the right direction. Next, the best
way to learn to skate is to do it as much
as possible and put in as much on-
board time as you can. Then I would try
and ride as many different combina-
tions of equipment as possible. This will
allow you to make your own choice. In-
stead of following some big name or
manufacturer that tells you what you
should ride. Anyway, thanks for the let-
ter. It's always good to hear more girls
are getting into skating.
KEEP IT CLEAN
DRB
Anybody who can help, my problem is I
cannot figure out how to drain a pool prop-
erly. Whenever I actually find a dry pool
after several skating sessions, it soon fills
up with water making it unskatable. Please
help, for this problem has been plaguing
me for some time now. Also a streetstyle
article as suggested would be fully appre-
ciated.
Thank you for your help.

Well, David, the only advice I can give,
besides what I've already mentioned in
past columns about covers or tarps, is
to what myself and many other skaters
have had to do all along. By using a
process of elimination you'll figure out
what way is going to work best.
If you've got a pump and the electri-
city to power it, there you go. Use the
drain if that works or just get some
buckets and go for it. If the pool is hold-
ing a lot of water and in close proximity
to a hillside, drop a coupla' hoses in
there and use the old suck and siphon
method. If there's just a little bit of water
in the bottom of the pool every time you
go there, scrounge up some old rags or
towels and start mopping the sucker.
Once you get the pool surface down to
the damp stage, throw some Kitty Litter
(fresh!) on there and sweep it around a
There is no easy, fun, or clean way to
drain a pool of its collected scum. But
hey! We did it, everybody before us did
it, and if you want to skate a pool, you'll
do it too.
THE WHEEL THING
DRB
Me and Biff Burly (Dead Cat local) wanna
find out what happened to the "Blackhart
double conical center bearing wheel. I've
seen better designs on a sofa than what
they poured your formula in. Don't give us
the company answer please!

P.S. Guest list for life if you can flow us a
set. Those who know don't tell, those who
tell don't know...
Actually the bottom line is just
another hot skater being burned by
some big name manufacturer. Happens
all the time, always will, one way or
another. I myself felt sad, not because I
lost money, but because the skaters
had to suffer by being denied a good
wheel.
As far as flowing a set of the much
coveted wheels, I wouldn't mind locat-
ing a few myself.
SKATER ID
Rick,
Blukkigh
Last night I was flipping pages through
an old issue of SKATEBOARDER
Magazine (Volume 4, Number 7, Feb. 78)
and guess what I found? You got it, an old
picture of you getting some air at the
Permanent Wave" skatepark in Mesa.
Arizona! (Pretty rad). I hope you took the
Skateboarder sticker off your board
before you joined up with THRASHER!
By the way, down here in Arkansas, we
got a few hot skaters, also.
Well, gotta go skating, so I'll check ya
later.
