More ramps are popping up everywhere.
Rumors are, that there is a Ramp Issue
planned for the near future. Send in black
and white photos of your ramp and
chances are that you might see it within the
pages of this mag.
Also planned for the near future is Skate
Rock. A definitive article on skaters in
bands, bands who skateboard, hardcore,
heavy metal, top 40, jazz and even country
bands are welcome to make contributions
to this article as long as there is someone
in the band that is a skateboarder. No
imitations, please. Also include info, i.e..
any competition data, local area, and how
long you've been skating, etc. Your chance
to become a real star.
S. Roccos dad bought him a restaurant.
Rob Roskopf relocating (maybe) to San
Jo, the new skate mecca. It is a fact that
the infamous Indy men, Eric and Fausto,
were seen attending a Sturgeon seminar
for the ultimate in fishing knowledge. Gnit
takes on the San Diego County judicial
system. Mike Pust, of the Calgarians
fame, recently dislocated his shoulder
during some gnarly speed run action. He's
laid up for two months and if it doesn't heal
right, he'll have to go under the knife. No
biggie, Mike just recently flew down to Los
Angeles to stock up on some boards and
assorted skate hardware for after his
recovery. Skate tough or go to L.A.?
At George Thorogoods' last stop in
"Slam Fran," Street Scott was able to
plant a THRASHER sticker onto the
bubbabba-bad guitarman's axe during one
of the most sizzling of licks. SS says he
now plans to put a THRASHER sticker
onto Jimi Hendrix's grave. What a guy.
Someone said they saw Bill Ruff
checking out the ranks in a Valley Girl
contest at the Galleria. Was it Billy or was
it Gator? Whichever, he also reportedly
pulled off a royal scam. No details though.
We here at THRASHER, a few months ago
saw some photos in the news
paper of the burnt out homes in
the Malibu Canyon area. There
were dozens of killer empty
pools.Our question is "Why hasn't
anyone tapped the well? Are we
being kept dry or is the outlying
Los Angeles area just lazy?"
Poor media crap: The movie, "Class of
1984, based on warped distorted images
of punker life, has had a bad effect on
Modesto local skaters, Paul Cadena,
Melissa Camille, and Keith. Apparently,
they were surrounded and jumped by a
bunch of guys after a showing of the movie
at their local theater, the reason presuma-
bly being the way the trio were dressed.
This is the result of poor, exploitive media
lies believed by the unknowing, ignorant,
public audience. One bad concussion,
cuts, bruises, a broken rib, and a fat lip and
a black eye on Melissa, a GIRL! Why is it
that you must now have to fear your
neighbor because you don't know what or
how he has been watching something? Is
this the price a person fears he may have
to pay if he chooses not to march to the
same drums as others.

STATIONARY OLLIE POP
by Rodney Mullen
1. Use the nose of the board for better
leverage and so the tail plate doesn't get in
your way. Stand with one foot on the nose
and the other about mid-deck. Crouch and
compress like a spring.
2. Begin pushing off, keeping legs and
knees close together.
3. Kick down with your back foot, fast and
hard. Set up like a gun shot "pop" off the
nose (which you are using as the tail).
4. The board will go vertical. The second
the nose/tail pops off, unweight the back
foot as you and the board become

airborne.
5.-6. By keeping your feet in close with the
board, you can just ride with it as the board
levels off at peak height. (Notice foot
contact with tail).
7. Landing is easy, just ride with it. Notice
how the board has traveled only about 3
inches sideways, but 2 feet straight up and
down.
The best way to learn is by starting off
with small little pops as you're riding
around and practicing. This will allow you
to get used to popping it off the tail, the
landing and manipulating the board with
just your feet.
