BIGGER & BETTER THAN EVER!
Before we start, I'd like to verify
the validity of last month's multiple
question letter. Due to some wan-
nabe accusations of letter fraud, I've
come to the conclusion that perhaps
someone out there is insinuating
that the material in this column is
not, in fact, the ideas put forth by
the general skate populace.
It seems the poseurs who actually
believe this, obviously feel
threatened by the truth, and would
rather try and lead you astray.
By the way, that letter was indeed
submitted by one, K.B. Wright, of
Chicago, Illinois.
CONEHEAD...
Dear Doc.
I have a set of green nameless
cubic park wheels that I use for
sliding (i.e. berts, laybacks, Ty
slides). My problem is that only one
wheel is coning, while the rest are
fairly large. I don't mind coned
wheels, except that I wish that they
would all cone out at the same time
and size. Do you have any idea what
I could do to equalize the size of all
four wheels?
Your advice on this subject would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks for
honest answers to honest questions,
stupid questions suck. Keep up the
good work.
Thanks,
Adam Hubunski, Topol the 1st

Well I tell ya, what you have here is
your obvious case of Rotation Syn-
drome. In other words, the reason your
wheels are wearing unevenly is be-
cause you are probably doing these
maneuvers mostly in the same direc
tion. What you want to do is rotate your
wheels by placing the worn wheel in
the least wearing spot, such as taking
either the left or right rear wheel and
exchanging it with either the left or
right front wheel; depending upon the
position of the worn wheel.
For you lameskates out there, if
you're sliding frontside and your stance.
is goofy foot then the wheel that is
going to take the brunt of the friction is
of course the right rear wheel, and if
you don't skate goofy foot, you figure it
out. Do this before it gets extremely
noticeable and you will be more apt to
keep an even rolling set.
NO ALTERNATIVE...
Dr. Rick,
DRB
I often sit and wonder "Is skateboard-
ing all that matters?" After being
assailed by a bombardment of negative
alternatives, I believe I have arrived at
the answer. However I need your
confirmation. Could you tell me Rick, is
skateboarding all that matters?
Garry Davis,
Oblivion
WHOA! Is this guy on acid or what?
O.K. First of all, if what you write is
really what you want to say, then
you've already answered your own
question. You say you sit and wonder?
Well if you weren't sitting and wondering
you would be out skating, right?
Therefore, you have no need for
asking such a meaningless question!
Furthermore, this jive about bombard-
ment of negative alternatives is totally
lame.
There is no alternative to skating.
Only the occasional brush with the
adrenalin rush that sometimes is found
in other, similar, aggro activities such
as surfing or snowboarding. Although
these other activities involve going out
and finding the situation and then
applying the skills. Relying on specific
conditions before the activity can
commence (ie, snow, waves, etc.). In
surfing, one must find waves (assuming
he has found the beach), semi-
uncrowded conditions and a place in
the line-up.
In skateboarding, however, you
create the situation. Wherever,
whenever, always adapting to the
conditions. A skateboarder relies on
nothing but the board. Skaters are still
exploring new surfaces in an never
ending quest, not to find the perfect
surface, but to find any unridden and
untested skating thrills. If you want to
take this as a confirmation of some
kind... There you go!
