THE COPS DON'T MIND
I heard of your magazine through Santa
Cruz when I ordered a skate through their
factory, what luck! Here in PA. (Harrisburg
area), the scene is almost dead. There is
about 5 or 6 of us left, and we have a half-
pipe (12' wide, 9' high, 8' flat bottom). The
ramp is in good shape and we terrorize
with all of the modern vert maneuvers.
The terrain is very hilly and good for
downhill and street riding. This summer I
broke 50 MPH standup on one of our
mountain roads, so that makes me cool!
Right now there is 12" of snow covering
everything, so I'll Snoboard until March or
April. Oh yes, with all of these skateparks
closing (Cherry Hill broke my heart), I've
got good news! Thunderdohm Skatepark.
in York, PA, still exists. They closed two
years ago so now we ride for free and the
cops don't mind! A lot of BMXers ride
there, but they are all little kids so we
hassle them about their lame bikes 'til
they leave! If they don't volunteer to
leave, we threaten them, that always
works. The park has two bowls with
vertical tombstone extensions, a big ramp
(not a half-pipe, sorry) and a fun mogul
area. There are a few locals we met and
became good friends with and skate with
all the time. We do these radical bowl to
bowl transfer aerials and catch hellish
distance, landing at the bottom of the next
bowl.
We'll send pictures when it warms up.
Hey, have you thought of making a list of
parks that still exist? It shouldn't be too
hard since there aren't many left.

A couple of weeks ago me and my
friends built this hot quarter pipe ramp at
the "Loading Zone" in Los Gatos, CA. It
had a great transition but only 4" of vert. It
was 16' wide and 8' high. It was so cool,
but the authorities don't like us. The
company that owns the loading zone tore
dirt, so now we can't even ride its banks.
It was so cool to skate there. We met a lot
of people there and now we all hang out
together. The only thing we can do now is
downhill and street skate. We found some
fast, steep hills, but we still miss the ramp.
