It's a hard act to follow, being here in the
desert where even the chickens shred/skate. It
is the type of indisputably hostile environment
that makes you create your own fun. Steve
Lawrence, Keith Stephenson and Greg Godfrey
have managed to survive and flourish and if you
look around, it hasn't been real easy. The local
boys all favor old V-8 high throttle cruising,
heavy metal, old Detroit iron, long hair, red
necks and basic be-like-us rowdyism. Or else its
called join or die. The local gashes aren't much
better either, their basic attitude can be summed
up as follows, "You mean you're eighteen and
still ride a skateboard?" According to Keith,
"Everything around here is totally lame, we had
no choice but to build the ramp."
Actually the three friends had built many other
ramps, including an innovative excavated sub-
surface plywood pool, so perhaps the current
ramp can be considered a logical extension.
Right now through the recycling and judicious
acquisition of materials, the ramp designer/build-
ers have just over a grand in it. It's got 6, 8 and
10 foot sections all intersecting with a 24 foot
wide gradually inclined bottom. (Don't read this
nonsense, just look at the pictures and figure it
out.) Plans are in the works for another section,
a basic 12 foot addition that would tie things to-
gether.
