Notice how you're starting to see more skateboarders out
on the streets these days.
Notice how there are a few new products on the skate mar-
ketplace.
Notice how more boards are coming out of the closets and
basements and being used in pools and drainage ditches.
Notice how you're local skateshop seems to stocking up
more boards and accessories lately.
Notice how more skaterats are hanging around the local
skateshop.
Notice how skateboarding has been showing up in the
media a lot more.
Notice how there are just as many backyard pools that are
skatable or are being skated than ever before.
Notice how skateboard ramp and half-pipes are becoming
one of the most constructed backyard structures in the
world.
Notice how easy it is to build a ramp.
Notice how the August 81 Thrasher featured an article on
ramp building.
Notice how inexpensive it is to build a ramp..
Notice how inexpensive it is to ride a skateboard.
Notice how much fun skateboarding is, was and always
will be.
Notice how you don't have to reminisce about past history
because you can go out and create new situations.
Notice how the gap between freestyle and vertical skating
has been filled in the form of streetstyle.
Notice how you can totally blow minds just by doing a
kickflip on a street corner. Let alone a five foot acid drop
off a wall.
Notice how many pedestrians still cannot comprehend
what skateboarding is all about.
Notice how we don't care that they don't care because we
are having fun and they might not be.
Notice how Action Now magazine has ceased publication.
Notice how Thrasher and the skateboarders of the world
are uniting under one banner to fight skate ignorance.
•Notice how Thrasher has even created its own competition
by encouraging smaller backyard publications.
Notice how hard we are working for skateboarding here at
Thrasher.
Notice how every issue has so much more than the last.
Notice how the coming events calendar is bulging for
1982.
Notice how that doesn't even include the hundreds of
smaller ditch and ramp events. Not to mention the full-on
sessions that are happening worldwide.
Notice how we are not using color photography just yet.
Notice how that's not stopping us from publishing a full-on
skateboarding magazine.
Notice how as of January the cover price of Thrasher was
raised a quad.
Notice how much of a bargain Thrasher is, even at $1.25,
and that the subscription price is still a bargain at $10.00 a
year (12 issues).
Notice how we do not have any regrets or apologies to
make to anyone because skateboarding is happening and
Thrasher and its readers are the creators of the new aware-
ness.
Notice how Thrasher intends to publish a skateboard
magazine until that last skater takes that last ride.
I just wanted you to notice a few things.

BEAR WITH US...
I know, I know, we said no apologies but we feel we do
owe you readers and subscribers out there an explanation.
We are behind. Not struggling, mind you, not on the brink of
financial disaster, just a little behind. Over the course of the
next few months you will see some changes in the format of
the magazine in an effort to bring us back up to date. We
have, in the past, been bogged down by the overwhelming
amount of work involved in putting a magazine of this
caliber together. With late night photo sessions leading into
all night darkroom sessions and massive amounts of writing
and editing to be done every issue we have slipped a little. It
is to our subscribers and the skaters who have stuck with us
from the beginning that we would like to say...bear with us.
As with skateboarding, Thrasher is continuing to grow
stronger every day. Each and every issue will continue to be
more power packed and full of skate action than the
previous one. Bigger photos, in-depth interviews and
intimate insights into the skate lifestyle will play a big part in
Thrasher, the only full-fledged skateboard magazine in the
world. We urge you to call or write concerning any problems
you may have in obtaining Thrasher. We want to know so
help us to help you. Remember, by skaters, for skaters, and
all about skateboarding.

GERMANY'S HAPPENING...
You have a skateboard magazine and
an absolutely well done one. It's just great
and overdue after legendary Skateboarder
Mag said goodbye. Try to cover all parts
of the world.
You probably have heard it many time
before but Germany is happening. There
are growing skateboard populations
everywhere. Every bigger town has
something to offer. Munster (in the north)
is now getting a community park with
some good elements in it. Here in
Stuttgart are two Hollywood pipes. It's just
great to see it grow. There are regular
championships everywhere as well as
international stuff (for example: 29, 30
August; European Championships in
Germany, 12, 13 September; German
Championships, 19, 20 September;
European Cup in Paris and so on.)
Although there are no regular half-pipe
contests, this is the thing that is most
wanted and will hopefully soon be
included. I'm going to send a small photo
story on southern Germany in a while.

Thrasher, your mag is the best! Please
don't change! Please, no BMX or Moto-
cross! They're enough mags like that
around. I like the new size of your Mag.
they stack better. You don't need to go to
color pages.
I am from California (Santa Cruz), we
moved here to Texas but are moving back
to Santa Cruz in the summer. Oh! Can
you tell me where the closest parks are to
Santa Cruz. I'm not talking about Derby
park or any of those little but killer bowls, I
mean a big park. Thanks.
