            FROM THE UNDERGROUND
KEITH
JIDE
DICK
He's the poet that didn't know it.
He's the Hubba-Hubba crooner
misplaced in time-twenty-five
years too late. His arms and legs
must be long 'cause they always
get tangled when he flails. He's got
the fire, he's got the loose lips.
Spectacular, ornery philanderer of
Bop a' Lulas. He's the jester,
sometimes he's a fool. He'll dance
into a woman's heart without
leaving footprints, he's Keith Joe
Dick.
Tall, dark and handsome like
yesterday's cliche, K.J.D. hits the
stage in a squared off haircut and
baggy clothes and expounding
boundless energy. Hip swiveling.
finger snappin', leg trembling
antics are all part of his presence
as a singer, dancer and romancer.
The GONERS, K.J.D.'s band of
renown, are a unique back-up
combo. Drummer Diane Boom
Boom and bassist Dixie Lee
compromise a solid rhythm section,
as well as visual interest. They lay
down the back beat for guitarist
Tom Cat Dickson (played guitar in
Gene Vincent's comeback band),
who sweats out novel and tasteful
leads, whether highway reelin' or
jungle rockin'.
The music of Keith Joe Dick and
the GONERS reflects the influence
of the rockabilly era, the
mainstream rock 'n' roll is the
result of the influence and collab-
oration of their hitmaker producer,
Mark Lindsay, former lead singer
of Paul Revere and the Raiders,
who intends to sign K.J.D. and the
GONERS to a major label.
Rumors out of Hollywood say
that K.J.D. is starring in a movie
about Sonny Ball, a Tennessee
rocker en route to the top. K.J.D.
was apparently discovered at a
Hong Kong Cafe gig. Executive
producer of the flick is Stuart
1 1 x 1 x 5 x
Cornfield, the same guy who was
executive producer of The Elephant
Man. The Rockabilly Romeo was
picked because of his down home
resemblance to Jethro Bodine of
The Beverly Hillbillies.
K.J.D. is an extremely entertain-
ing act, with clown-like antics. In
between songs, he dashes back-
stage only to return seconds later
donning boxing shorts, gloves and
boots, swinging away at an imagi-
nary opponent, finally knocking
himself out. Or he comes out
wearing a Forty-Niner jersey,
carrying a football and pretending
to be Joe Montana, only to get
heavily sacked. He likes to end his
shows by crooning to some broad
in the audience, on his knees or
while belly-up on a table.
Keith Joe Dick, the Wonder
(down home) Boy from Los
Angeles. He's a sensation. He's
rock 'n' roll.
